Para entonces el jefe de la inteligencia francesa,
el capitán Ladoux quien ya sospechaba de ella, in-
tercepto unos de sus mensajes, de tal manera que le
tendió una trampa para que regresara a Francia.
Los franceses la detuvieron el 13 de febrero de
1917 al utilizar una identificación falsa fue recluida
en la prisión de Saint Lazare a las afueras de París.
El tribunal francés la acusó de alta traición y la
condenó a muerte sin pruebas concluyentes, ella
negó los cargos alegando que se acostaba con mi-
litares por gusto y no por deber.
Durante el juicio se le atribuye otra de sus famosas
citas: “¿Una cualquiera? ¡Si! Pero una traidora ¡jamás!”
Fue ejecutada por un pelotón de fusilamiento
la mañana del 15 de Octubre de 1917 con 41 años
de edad en el Castillo de Vincennes.
Se sabe que no permitió que le vendaran los ojos
y cuenta la leyenda que lanzó un beso de despedida
a sus ejecutores logrando que de los 12 soldados que
conformaban el pelotón de fusilamiento sólo 4 de
ellos dieran en el blanco, uno de los cuales dio en el
corazón causándole una muerte instantánea.
Su cuerpo nunca fue reclamado por ningún fami-
liar y se utilizó para el aprendizaje de anatomía de los
estudiantes de medicina, como era costumbre para
las personas ejecutadas y consideraras criminales.
Su cabeza embalsamada permaneció en el Mu-
seo de Criminales de Francia hasta que en 1958 fue
robada y nunca más se supo de ella.

By then the French intelligence alongside cap-
tain Ladoux already suspected of her due to the in-
terception of a message sent by her, setting a trap in
order for Mata Hari to return to France.
The French arrested her on February 13, 1917
using a fake ID and was confined in the prison of
Saint Lazare on the outskirts of Paris.
The French court accused her of high treason
and was condemned to death without evidence;
she denied the charges claiming that she slept
with military by choice and not by duty.
During the trial another of her famous quotes
emerged: “A harlot? Yes! But a traitor never! “
She was executed by a firing squad on the
morning of October 15, 1917 with 41 years of age
at the Chateau de Vincennes.
It is known that she didn’t wished to be blind-
folded and legend suggests she threw a farewell
kiss to her executors, resulting in the fact that of
the twelve soldiers who formed the firing squad
only four hit the target, one of the bullets man-
aged to enter her heart, causing instant death.
Her body was never claimed by any family
member and was used by anatomy medical stu-
dents, as was customary for those executed con-
sidered criminals.
Her embalmed head remained in the Criminal
Museum of France until 1958 when it was stolen
and has never been heard of again.
