n la incansable contienda por ostentar el título
del más rápido, Shelby Super Cars ha lanzado
obras automotrices que han dejado huella. En
2007, el SSC Ultimate Aero fue llevado al público entu-
siasta de la velocidad, y fue presentado como un digno
contendiente del Bugatti Veyron, llegando incluso a arre-
batarle a este último el record del coche más veloz del
mundo, hasta la llegada del Bugatti Veyron Super Sport.
Ahora, la nueva generación de autos pertenecien-
te a la casa estadounidense presenta al SSC Tuatara,
un coche que busca, ni más ni menos, derrocar a la va-
riación del Veyron como el bólido más rápido de todo
el mundo, y rebasar la marca de 431 kilómetros por
hora. Ante esta titánica tarea, el equipo de 16 inge-
nieros de SSC concentró sus esfuerzos para diseñar
y construir el Tuatara. El resultado representa el si-
guiente paso en la escala evolutiva del SSC.
El SSC Tuatara combina avances técnicos con el
imponente y clásico aspecto de los Shelby. Tanto el
cuerpo como el chasis están elaborados a base de
fibra de carbono, y cuenta con varias aperturas ae-
rodinámicas que le permiten desahogar el calor que
genera el uso del motor. Asimismo, cuenta con dos
discretos alerones que tienen una función aerodiná-
mica y de estabilización.
El exterior, mezcla de estilo y funcionalidad, se
constituye por las osadas líneas que dan forma al co-
che. El toldo y las ventanas se fusionan en una sola
marca oscura que contrasta con el blanco predomi-
nante, mientras que detalles como los faros delante-
ros azules y las luces traseras rojas otorgan un balan-
ce en las tonalidades.
Por su parte, la maquinaria interna del Tuatara,
responsable de impulsarlo a las velocidades que SSC
afirma, se constituye de un motor V8 Twin Turbo que
genera 1350 Hp. Con esta potencia, se especula pueda
ir de 0 a 100 kilómetros en 2.8 segundos, con una ve-
locidad máxima de 443 kilómetros por hora.

n the relentless competition for the title of the
fastest, Shelby Super Cars has launched many
automotive works that have left their sig-
nificant marks. In 2007, the SSC Ultimate Aero was
taken to the speed enthusiastic audience and pre-
sented as aworthy opponent for the Bugatti Veyron;
indeed, it even managed to seize the latter’s record
of the fastest car in the world, until the arrival of the
Bugatti Veyron Super Sport.
Now, the new generation of cars belonging to
the North American house presents the SSC Tua-
tara, a car that seeks, no more no less, to overthrow
Veyron’s variation as the fastest sports vehicle in
the world and to go beyond the record of 431 ki-
lometers per hour. To face this daunting task, the
SSC team of 16 engineers focused their efforts to
design and build the Tuatara. The result represents
the next step in the evolution of the SSC.
The SSC Tuatara combines ultimate technical ad-
vances with the imposing and classical aspect of the
Shelbies. Both body and chassis are built on a carbon
fiber base, and have many aerodynamic openings
that allow it to ventilate the heat that the engine
generates. It also has two sober and elegant ailerons
that have an aerodynamic and stabilizer function.
The exterior, sporting a delicate combination of
style, sophistication and functionality, is consti-
tuted by the bold lines that give shape to the car.
The canopy and the windows fuse in a single dark
outline that contrasts with the predominant white,
while details such as the blue headlights and the
red taillights provide a balance of colors.
On its own, the Tuatara’s inner machinery, which
gives it the capacity to accelerate as SSC states, is
constituted by a V8 Twin Turbo engine that gener-
ates 1350 Hp. With this power, it is expected to go
from 0 to 100 kilometers in 2.8 seconds, with a maxi-
mumspeed of 443 kilometers per hour.
