New era for the Mexican Open
A
capulco fue nuevamente escenario de la
vigesimoprimera edición del Abierto Mexicano
de Tenis Telcel, en la que se coronó la eslovaca
Dominika Cibulkova, máxima favorita del título en la
categoría femenil, y el búlgaro Grigor Dimitrov, cuarto
favorito al título.
En la categoría femenil, la eslovaca Dominika
Cibulkova, quien resultó victoriosa ante Christina
McHale 7-6(3), 4-6, 6-4 y avanzó a la final, donde se
enfrentó a la estadunidense Christina McHale, tras
imponerse a la francesa Caroline García por 3-6, 6-2
y 7-5. Cibulkova venció a McHale con parciales de
7-6 (3), 4-6 y 6-4, con lo que la eslovaca logró su
primera corona del año para sumar 280 puntos en la
clasificación WTA.
La sorpresa fue la actuación de Dimitrov, al
eliminar al británico Andy Murray, el segundo
favorito, en tres sets, con parciales de 4-6, 7-6 (7/6)
y 7-6 (7/3). Con esta jugada, la final estaba definida:
Dimitrov frente al sudafricano Kevin Anderson,
quinto preclasificado, quien previamente eliminó
al ucraniano Alexandr Dolgopolov, con marcación
de 6-1, 5-7 y 6-4. Finalmente, el búlgaro Dimitrov
culminó victorioso en el torneo categoría ATP 500,
luego de un enfrentamiento de cerca de tres horas
frente al sudafricano Anderson por 7-6 (7/1), 3-6 y
7-6 (7/5).

The surprise of the night belonged to Dimitrov,
who eliminated Scottish Andy Murray, the second
favorite, in three sets, with a final score of 4-6, 7-6
(7/6), and 7-6 (7/3). With this play, the final was
settled: Dimitrov against the South African Kevin
Anderson, fifth-seeded, who previously eliminated
the Ukrainian Alexandr Dolgopolov, with a final
score of 6-1, 5-7, and 6-4. Finally, the Bulgarian
Dimitrov took the first spot of the ATP 500 category
tournament, after facing a three-hour long match
against the South African Anderson, ending 7-6
(7/1), 3-6, and 7-6 (7/5).
