asta hace algunos años la época in-
vernal era la temporada ideal para el
avistamiento de grandes manadas de
orcas por las costas noruegas, pues era
la época en que el arenque –su principal
alimento– comenzaba su migración hacia aguas menos
profundas para desovar y los mamíferos aprovechaban
para darse un festín. En la actualidad, el éxodo del aren-
que se ha modificado, por tal razón los avistamientos
son más frecuentes, casi en cualquier estación del año.
Los encuentros con estos imponentes animales
son una de las principales atracciones noruegas, en es-
pecial en Svolvaer y las islas Lofoten; los safaris, cuya
temporada va desde finales de octubre a mediados de
enero, se llevan a cabo a bordo de embarcaciones per-
fectamente adaptadas para ello, por lo que no es difícil
admirar sus robustos cuerpos y las bien delineadas y
erguidas aletas que les caracterizan.

was the ideal season to watch big
herds or Orcas roaming the Norwegian
coasts, for it was the migration time
of the Herring, its main source of food,
towardsmore shallowwaters to lay their eggs and the
mammals took advantage of such situation to have a
feast. Today, the exodus of the Herring has changed
being that the reason why the sightings of the Orcas
are less frequent, almost in any season of the year.
The encounters with these stunning animals are
one of the main Norwegian attractions, especially in
Svolvaer and the Lofoten Islands. The safaris, which
are carried out between the end of October and the
middle of January, are performed on ships perfectly
adapted for such task, being this the reason why it
is so easy to admire the solid bodies and well drafted
and erect flippers, characteristic of thesemammals.
