Stave Churchs
Los Stavkirke, como se nombra en Noruega a los tem-
plos cristianos medievales construidos de madera,
mejor conocidos como Stave Churchs, son quizá una
de las piezas de arquitectura cristiana en madera más
bellas del mundo, además de tener gran valor histórico
pues muchas de ellas se remonta a la época medieval.
Dentro de éstas, destaca el templo de Urnes, en Luster.
Data de 1150 y fue declarada Patrimonio de la Humani-
dad por la UNESCO en 1979. La historia cuenta que fue
creada para una familia poderosa. Sus constructores
decidieron transferir la estética pétrea a la madera, lo-
grando una reproducción excepcional, elegante y estili-
zada, a través de varias capas de techumbre. El interior
de esta pieza de planta rectangular está decorado con
motivos animales, así como por representaciones de
seres de la mitología nórdica.

Stave Churchs
The Stavkirke, as the old medieval Christian
temples built with wood are called in Norway,
better known as Stave Churchs, are maybe one of
the most beautiful pieces of Christian architec-
ture in the world.
Amongst them the temple of in Luster out-
stands. Built in 1150, was declared World Heri-
tage in 1979 by the UNESCO.
The story tells that it was built for a powerful
family and that its builders decided to move
the aesthetic in stone to wood, managing an ex-
ceptional, elegant and slender reproduction by
using several levels of roof. The interior of the
building is decorated with animal motifs and
with representations of beings from the Nordic
Mythology.
