to desde el que se eleva con fuerza y simpleza, do-
mina el río Elba, símbolo de la ciudad de Usti nad
Labem. La obra fue edificada por el rey checo Juan
de Luxemburgo hacia 1319, para garantizar la se-
guridad de los barcos que navegaban por el río.
Dice la leyenda que Richard Wagner compuso
aquí una ópera y unas pinturas que se conservan
dan testimonio del dicho.
Nos desviamos para descubrir Teplice, un en-
cantador pueblo con iglesias de altas torres rema-
tadas por una cúpula en forma de media cebolla
fijada por una aguja, sus hermosas calles ador-
nadas por casas de colores y su alegre fuente.
Teplice se sitúa en una hondonada entre Krusné
Hory (Montes Metálicos) y el macizo central. Se le
considera uno de los mejores balnearios de Euro-
pa por sus fuentes termales curativas conocidas
desde tiempos del Imperio Romano.
Elegimos como punto de observación la terra-
za de uno de los restaurantes que rodean la plaza
adoquinada. El paisaje incluye disfrutar del espec-
táculo de la fuente y su gente, gozando de mo-
mentos de paz rodeados de un escenario encan-
tador. Su teatro presenta obras de teatro, ópera,
ballet, que rejuvenece el alma. En síntesis, Teplice
es como el preludio de Praga: si Praga fuese una
sinfonía -y de cierto modo lo es.
Nuestra ruta atravesaba campos que brillaban
de tan verdes, cultivos extendidos sobre lomas que
marcan el rumbo hacia Praga. Nos detuvimos en
Litomerice, antigua ciudad dominada por el señorío

of Luxemburg circa 1319 to guarantee the safety of
the ships that travelled through the river.
A popular legend states that Richard Wag-
ner composed an opera inside the castle, painting
which confirm this fact are allegedly stored there.
From thence, we discovered Teplice, an en-
chanting town with churches featuring high
towers and spiked domes. The streets are won-
derful, and are adorned with colourful houses
and fountains. Teplice is located in a hollow
ground between Krusné Hory, and the central
plateau. It is considered as one of the finest
health resorts in Europe thanks to its thermal
springs which have been known since the time
of the Roman Empire.
We chose as a vantage point the terrace of
the restaurants that surround the central plaza.
The landscape includes a large fountain and the
people around it, enjoying peaceful moments
inside this enchanting scenery. Its theatre pres-
ents operas and ballets that rejuvenate the soul.
In short, Teplice is like a prelude to Prague, if
Prague was a symphony—and it is, in a way.
Our route crossed through hills of green, and
fields of crops that mark the way to Prague. We
stopped at Litomerice, ancient city dominated by
its cathedral located near the Elba river. We vis-
