T
he Marietas Islands are a small group of
islands to the south of Nayarit located 25
miles (40 kilometers) to the west of Puerto
Vallarta, in the mouth of the Banderas Bay. Their
volcanic origin is related to the opening of the Gulf
of California and presents a large amount of open
caves and rocky terrain as a consequence of their
rising up during their formation process. There are
also rocky plains with pastures and Bromelias that
grow on the two larger islands.
Its tropical and subtropical climate at different
times of the year offer ideal natural conditions for

sur de Nayarit localizado 40 kilómetros al oeste de
Puerto Vallarta, en la boca de Bahía de Banderas. Su
origen volcánico está relacionado con la apertura del
Golfo de California y presenta gran cantidad de cuevas a
cielo abierto y cantiles con cuevas, como consecuencia de
su levantamiento durante su proceso de formación.
También presenta planicies rocosas con pastizales y brome-
lias que vegetan en las dos islas mayores.
Su clima tropical y subtropical en distintas épocas del
año brinda condiciones naturales ideales para la anida-
