Here, the underwater world is an infinite beau-
ty and tranquility and are endless places to enjoy
underwater sports. It is the perfect place to take
part in almost all water sports. However, if it is div-
ing you are interested in; Cancun is considered as
one of the best diving spots in the world because of
its variety of reefs and depths. Yet everybody's
happy, from the most experienced divers to
novices.
Some of the most popular diving places for
beginners can be found in the Bahía de Mujeres;
the closest reef to the coast is called “El Bajito”,
which is very colorful and has enormous pillar and
brain corals and is ideal for children and young-
sters. This is a favorite of lovers of scuba diving
and snorkeling. This reef is very close to the
water's edge, with a slight current and its maxi-
mum depth is only 15 feet.
In the same bay, a little beyond El Bajito, we find
the most visited reef by novice divers and snorkel-
ers: Los Chitales. It consists of two coral formations
that run from east to west for almost 500 meters,
and although that it is shallow (no more than 30
feet), it has large amount of fish that seek refuge in
the moose and deer head corals, the gorgonias and
hydrazoa.

practicar el deporte del submarinismo. Es un lugar ideal
para la práctica de casi cualquier deporte acuático. Pero
si de buceo se trata, Cancún está considerado uno de los
mejores lugares del mundo, por su variedad de arrecifes
y profundidades. Aquí todos quedan satisfechos, tanto
los buzos más experimentados como los principiantes.
Algunos de los lugares de buceo más populares para
los principiantes son los que están localizados en la
Bahía de Mujeres; el arrecife más cercano a la costa se
conoce como “El Bajito”, de gran colorido, que presenta
corales de pilar y corales cerebros de grandes tamaños,
y es ideal para niños y jóvenes. Es el favorito de los
amantes del buceo libre o esnórquel. Este arrecife se
encuentra muy cerca de la orilla, tiene poca corriente y
su profundidad máxima es de 15 pies.
En la misma bahía, y un poco más adelante de El
Bajito, encontramos el arrecife más visitado por los
buzos y esnorqueleadores principiantes: Los Chitales.
Son dos grandes formaciones coralinas, que corren de
este a oeste, por casi 500 metros, y si bien es de poca
profundidad (no pasa de los 30 pies), no es obstáculo
para tener gran cantidad de peces, que encuentran refu-
gio en los corales cuernos de alce, cuernos de venado,
gorgonias y abanicos de mar.
Uno de mis lugares favoritos para hacer fotografía
submarina y admirar los grandes bancos de peces de
todos colores, así como esperar lo inesperado, es
Cuevones. También se encuentra en Bahía de Mujeres.
