losos de la Tierra, majestuoso e único, soberbio.
Los lagos toman colores de jade o turquesa, los
picos más altos, divididos en Los Cuernos del Paine
(2600 m) y las Torres del Paine (2800 m), separados
por el valle francés, cambian de forma según como
las nubes juguetean con ellos, se reflejan en el agua
del lago Nordenskjöld o del lago Pehoé, exponiendo
sus sorprendentes formas a los rayos del sol. En el
lago Sarmiento migran unos flamencos, los cisnes de
cuello negro prefieren las lagunas, el cóndor vigila las
alturas. El lago Grey se forma por el deshielo del gla-
ciar Grey, cuya pared se fractura para formar los tém-
panos que al derretirse alimentan el lago.
Las Torres del Paine es uno de esos lugares gran-
diosos que no se pueden describir porque no alcan-
zan las palabras para decir su belleza, sólo se puede
admirar, silenciosamente y percibiendo las vibracio-
nes de la vegetación, de las rocas, de los animales. Es
fascinante caminar por los senderos o navegar por
los lagos y admirar ese tesoro de la Tierra.
El avión de LanChile nos llevó de regreso a
Santiago, los ojos llenos de imágenes fastuosas, gran-
diosas, como si acabáramos de ver un filme donde los
escenarios son los protagonistas. Es un mundo ame-
nazado por el calentamiento de la Tierra, una belleza
original, la Tierra casi tal como existe desde el princi-
pio. Las fotos son un débil espejo de la realidad, de
esos momentos únicos frente a esos soberbios dise-
ños creados por nuestro planeta. El Cono Sur, del lado
chileno como del argentino, no deja de sorprendernos
en extravagancias naturales y a la vez nos invita al
fasto de Punta del Este y Buenos Aires.

prising forms in the rays of the sun. The lake is home
to migrating flamingoes, the black neck swans pre-
fer the lagoons and the condor guards from on high.
Grey Lake is a body of water formed by the melting
Grey glacier, whose wall has fractured to form ice
flows that melt and feed it.
Torres del Paine is one of those grand natural
places that is so well preserved that its beauty can
hardly be described. One can only silently admire it
and perceive the vibrations of its flora, rocks and
animals. It is a fascinating experience to walk
along its paths or sail on its lakes and admire this
treasure of the world.
The LanChile flight tookus back to Santiagowith
our eyes overflowingwith lavish, grand images, as if
we had just seen a film where the sceneries are the
protagonists. It is a truly original place, the world as
it was at the beginning and where nature is threat-
ened by global warming. Photos are a poor illusion of
the reality, of those unique moments spent facing
these superb designs created by our planet. The
Southern Cone, on the Argentinean as well as the
Chilean side, leaves us amazed by nature’s extrava-
gance and, at the same time, invites us to the display
of Punta del Este and Buenos Aires.
