El Arrecife de la Isla Sonesta, en la costa sur, presenta
un fondo arenoso cubierto por gran cantidad de corales
cerebro.Cercanoalmismohayrestosdedosavioneshun-
didos. El más emblemático es el Sonesta Airplane, avión
confiscado por el gobierno por contrabando de drogas y
hundido sobre un fondo de 25 m gracias al empeño de
varios centros de buceo. Otro pecio es el Tugboat, a pro-
fundidades de entre 12 y 30 m, cayendo gradualmente,
tiene formacionesde coral cerebro, estrellayen ramas. Es
un viejo remolcador que da refugio a muchas morenas y
que es muy visitado por las rayas. Otros restos rodeados
de coral son los del Jane Sea Wreck de 65 m de longitud
situados entre 10 y 25 m de profundidad. El California, a
15 m, está cubierto de coral poblado de peces de arreci-
fe, pero sólo es recomendable visitarlo si se tiene cierta
experiencia dadas las corrientes y marejadas de la zona.
En el arrecifeMalmok encontraremos senderos tapizados
con coral por donde discurren las mantas y en donde ha-
bitan las langostas. Cantil es un arrecife con una pronun-
ciada caída donde nos encontraremos con grandes me-
ros, mantas, morenas y peces de arrecife. El Arrecife Baby
Beach es una buena opción para el buceo de playa donde
podremos observar coral, pulpos, langostas y cangrejos.
El Arrecife del Lago es uno de los sitios más profundos de
la isla (-38 m) en los que encontraremos gorgonias, es-
ponjas, grandes anémonas ymuchos peces.
The Sonesta Island Reef, on the south coast,
has a sandy bottom covered by lots of brain
coral. Close to it are remains of two sunken air-
planes. The flagship is the Sonesta Airplane,
seized by the government for smuggling drugs
and sunk on a background of 25 m through the
efforts of several diving centers. Another sight
is the Tugboat wreck at depths of between 12
and 30 m, falling gradually as brain coral for-
mations, star and branches. It’s an old tugboat
that harbors many eels and rays. Other remains
surrounded by corals are the Jane Sea Wreck of
65 m in length located between 10 and 25 m of
depth. The California, 15 m, is covered in coral
reef, but it is only recommended to visit if you
have some experience given the currents and
tides of the area. In Malmok reef you can find a
coral upholstered path, through which rays float
and lobsters inhabit. Cantil is a reef with a steep
drop where we find large groups of mantas, mo-
ray eels and reef fish. The Reef Baby Beach is a
good choice for beach diving where we can see
coral, octopus, lobsters and crabs. The Reef Lake
is one of the most profound of the island (-38 m)
in which we find gorgonians, sponges, anemo-
nes and many large fish.
