En la orilla del cráter del volcán Rano Kau, encontramos los vestigios de una antigua aldea. Los islotes Motu Nui desafían las olas y aquí tenía lugar la
famosa ceremonia del Hombre Pájaro, cuando los concursantes tenían que bajar al acantilado de Orongo, para llegar al islote y recoger el primer huevo del pájaro
“minutara”. Resulta ser un atractivo cultural pues fue una aldea destinada a fines ceremoniales, en donde celebraban la transición entre la hora de invierno y del
verano con la llegada de la primavera. La palabra Orongo significa “lugar del mensajero”, nombre otorgado por la llegada de aves migratorias. /
