apama Private Game Reserve, a la orilla del Kruger
National Park, provincia de Limpopo, es una fa-
bulosa reserva privada.
Esas tierras pertenecían a los padres de Lente (hoy
esposa de Johann Roode), quien en su niñez pasaba lar-
gas temporadas en ese lugar, desde que su familia com-
pró estas tierras en 1950. Cuando ella tenía 6 años uno
de los granjeros vecinos mató a una hembra guepardo y
Lente se encargó del guepardito que quedó huérfano. Lo
llamó “Sebeka” y lo crió, gracias a lo cual Lente generó
una extraordinaria relación con el animalito y, a partir de
ese momento, desarrolló una profunda afición hacia los
guepardos. Cuando Lente se casó con Johann Roode
compraron varias granjas, con el fin de fundar la reserva
de Kapama, que hoy tiene 13,000 hectáreas. Lente ha
creado ese centro de rehabilitación para las especies en
peligro y actualmente hacen estudios sobre guepardos,
perros salvajes, leones y rinocerontes, entre otros ani-
males de la región.
Hoedspruit Endangered Species Center es un mara-
villoso entorno para la protección de los animales en pe-
ligro. Reserva un tratamiento muy especial para los
huéspedes de Camp Jabulani. En los grandes espacios
observamos a los perros salvajes, tuvimos la suerte de
ver al guepardo, el más veloz y hermoso de los felinos.
Ingresamos en un recinto donde había guepardos, pudi-
mos acariciarlos.
El guepardo es un animal que transmite dignidad, y
es tan poderoso y tan elegante que estar junto a él hace
sentir una de las emociones más extraordinarias que
uno pueda imaginar. También visitamos a Roger, un ri-
noceronte huérfano recién recogido, que vive en la bue-
na compañía de un borrego.

Kruger National Park, in the province of
Limpopo, is a fascinating private reserve.
These lands belonged to Lente’s parents. Now
the wife of Johann Roode, she has been coming here
since 1950, when her family bought this property.
When Lente was six years old, neighboring farmers
killed a female cheetah and she cared for the orpha-
ned cub. Lente called it Sebeka, brought it up and es-
tablished an extraordinary relationship with the
little animal. Fromthatmoment on, she developed a
wonderful bondwith cheetahs. When Lentemarried
Johann Roode they bought several farms with the
idea of establishing the Kapama Reserve, whichnow
covers 13,000 hectares (32,123 acres). Lente has
created a rehabilitation center for species on the
brink of extinction and they are also doing research
on cheetahs, wild dogs, lions and rhinoceros, among
other animals of the region.
Hoedspruit Endangered Species Center is a mar-
velous space dedicated the protection of endangered
species. It is open to the public but guests staying in
Camp Jabulani receive special treatment. In the open
spaceswe observedwild dogs, a strange and rare ani-
mal. We were also lucky enough to see cheetahs, the
swiftest, most beautiful felines. We went into one of
the cheetah shelters and touched the animals that
approached us. It was an unforgettable experience.
The cheetah is a very dignified animal. It is so
powerful and elegant that just being near it pro-
vokes unimaginable, extraordinary sensations. We
also visited Roger, a recently rescued orphaned
rhino that lives with a sheep.
