Parque Rizal (o Parque Luneta), al sur de Intra-

muros, es donde los manileños se congregan en

días festivos en torno al monumento de José Rizal,

en el mismo sitio donde fuera fusilado. Por su par-

te, Roxas Boulevard es perfecto para contemplar

el paisaje y tomar algo en alguna de sus terrazas.

Muy cerca está el tradicional barrio de Malate, una

de las zonas con más opciones entre negocios, ho-

teles, restaurantes y edificios coloniales. No nos

sorprenda ver una amplia oferta de todo tipo de

servicios, incluyendo comercio sexual.

Makati por su parte, se destaca por sus modernos

edificios que revelan a una gran ciudad y dotan a Manila

de un soplo vanguardista; es aquí donde encontramos

barrios residenciales, zonas de oficinas, centros comer-

ciales y opciones más lujosas para el esparcimiento.

La autopista EDSA (Epifanio de los Santos Ave-

nue) es la principal arteria citadina y cuenta con el

rápido Metro elevado. Aquí adquieren protagonis-

mo los numerosos espectaculares publicitarios, a

veces amenazantes y frágiles durante tormentas,

que parecen tener vida propia en medio del gris de

las estaciones.

Rizal Park, at south of Intramuros, is where the

local people gathered on festive days to celebrate

they nationality in the same place where Jose Rizal

was executed. Roxas Boulevard, on the other hand,

is perfect to spend an evening admiring the views

while having a drink in one of itsmany terraces. The

Malete neighbor lies nearby, and it’s one of the busi-

ness districts of the city, where travelers will find

hotels, restaurants, and colonial buildings. This

neighborhood is also home to several businesses,

including a shocking sex industry.

Mataki stands out thanks to its modern

buildings that provide a cosmopolitan air to Ma-

nila city. It is here where one finds most residen-

tial areas, local office buildings, shopping malls,

and other leisure facilities.

The EDSA highway (Edifanio de los Santos Av-

enue) is the main artery of the city and features an

elevated Metro railway. It is dotted with billboards,

which can be sometimes threatening, as the fre-

quent storms make them seem light and fragile.

Others are extremely large and seem to have a life

on their own.
