Más allá de Manila

Todo lo que rodea al corazón de Filipinas es digno de

admirarse. Manila es un punto estratégico para gozar

de todo lo que el archipiélago ofrece. Si enumeramos

cada aspecto, nos extenderíamos demasiado, pero

vale la pena mencionar algunos de los más próximos e

imperdibles parajes que rodean Manila.

Isla Corregidor se sitúa aún en la bahía de Manila y

destaca por su pasado bélico como fortaleza y escena-

rio de la Segunda Guerra Mundial. Por su parte, el mu-

nicipio de Angono, ubicado a escasos 30 Km de Manila

en la provincia de Rizal, es reconocido como “La Capital

Artística de las Filipinas” y es hogar de diversos colec-

tivos artísticos, eventos diversos, fiestas populares,

entre otras expresiones culturales; además de sus

admirables petroglifos con más de 3,000 años de

antigüedad. Aquí también encontramos la laguna

de Bay, con su espléndido paisaje.

A tan sólo 50 km de Manila, ya en territorio de Lu-

zón, podemos admirar el Lago Taal, un profundísimo

recinto acuático formado en una antigua caldera volcá-

nica -y altamente activa-, cuyo ecosistema único per-

siste en condiciones peculiares. Aquí mismo encontra-

mos la ciudad de Tagaytay, así como algunos pueblos

pesqueros, donde suelen vacacionar muchos manile-

ños, quienes se recrean con sus inspiradoras vistas.

BeyondManila

Everything that surrounds the heart of the Philip-

pines is worthy of being admired. Manila is a stra-

tegic point for travelers and, if we were to numbers

the reasons why, perhaps the complete list would

become interminable. Yet, we can name a few places

near Manila that are worthy of being explored.

Corregidor Island is found in Manila Bay, and

it stands out thanks to its military past, acting not

only as a fortress but also a strategic point during

World War II. For its part, the Angono municipality,

located it amere 30km fromManila, is recognized as

the “Artistic Capital of the Philippines.” It is home to

a large number of artists, and the place is known for

its parades, outdoor festivals, and cultural events,

as well as his admirable petroglyphs with more

than 3,000 years old. Here we also find Lagoon Bay ,

with its splendid scenery.

Fifty kilometers from Manila is where we

find the Luzon territory, home to the Taal Lake,

a deep water enclosure formed by the ancient,

and highly active, volcanic ridge. Its unique eco-

system persists under some peculiar conditions.

Here, we find the city Tagaytay as well as some

fishing villages that have become popular tour-

ist destinations for the people of Mania.
