Our boatwaited forus inthe small dockofNaThong,
which also welcomes ferries and fishermen. We sailed
around the islandcomprisedof 21kmofwithand25km
of length. A dense tropical jungle surrounded the
mountains where cascades flow, palm trees decorated
the beaches andwhere people visits the small towns.
We passed the peninsula of the Four Seasons to
observe the north beaches until we reached the small
town of Bo Phut. The dock also welcomes ferries from
the north and it is famous for its restaurants as well as
its night life. The “need tomake stop” was the Big Buda,
an immense golden Buda statue situated on the island
that attracts believers for a certain mystical feeling
that the statue emanates.
We passed the small island of Som in order to
change the course to the south. We discovered the east
coast beginning with the beautiful beach of Choeng
Mon, crystal clear water and many hotels. The small
island of Matlang protects the small town of Chaweng
with its restaurants and bars. Foreigners favorite this
place. We continue to the town of Lamai.
We sailed through the southern part, a less visited,
savaged and authentic places, with its fishermen
huts, its immense white beaches surrounded by
palm trees. It is a true forgotten paradise, almost
intact. We anchored in the Phangka Bay to eat
authentic seafood and fried fish in a humble restau-
rant. We admired the islands that raised in front of
us, after sailing along the idealistic beaches of Hua
Thanon, Bang Kao, Thong Krut. We cruised along
other beaches like Taling Noam until reaching Na
Thong and then returned to our sanctuary villa.
Una embarcación esperaba en el pequeño puerto
de Na Thong, que acoge a ferries y pescadores, para
navegar alrededor de la isla, de 21 km de ancho y 25
de longitud. Sus montañas albergan una densa selva
tropical, donde corren las cascadas y sus playas se
adornan de cocotales y pueblos muy concurridos por
los visitantes.
Por la península que rodea al Four Seasons, se
observaron las playas nortes hasta el pequeño pue-
blo de Bo Phut, cuyo muelle recibe los ferries que vie-
nen del norte, famoso por sus restaurantes y la vida
nocturna. La parada obligatoria fue en el Big Buda,
una inmensa estatua dorada asentada sobre la
isla y que atrae a los fieles por el misticismo que
emana de su figura.
Enfilamos a la pequeña isla de Som, para cambiar
de rumbo hacia el sur, descubriendo la costa este,
empezando por la hermosa playa de Choeng Mon, de
aguas cristalinas y muchos hoteles. En la pequeña
isla de Matlang se encuentra Chaweng con sus res-
taurantes y bares, lugar favorito de los extranjeros
para continuar al siguiente pueblo de nombre Lamai.
La parte sureña es menos concurrida, más salvaje y
auténtica. Con sus chozas de pescadores, inmensas
playas de arena blanca y bordeadas por cocotales.
Paraíso olvidado, casi intacto, anclamos para comer
mariscos y pescado frito en uno de los
chiringuitos
de la
playa de Phangka Bay, admirando las islas que surgen al
frente, después de haber navegado a lo largo de las idí-
licas playas de Hua Thanon, Bang Kao, y Thong Krut.
Pasamos de largo otras playas como Taling Ngam hasta
alcanzar Na Thong, y regresar a la suntuosa villa.
