La captura de este coloso del mar consiste en la pe-
ricia, experiencia y conocimiento del capitán del navío
pesquero, pues no existe radar alguno que detecte al
cangrejo. El pescador avezado, sabe que por la mañana
los gigantes crustáceos se encuentran en las zonas ba-
jas y por la noche, se mueven a las zonas más profun-
das en busca de alimento. Por lo que la embarcación
se mantiene en movimiento continuo y el trabajo no
cesa; una vez capturados, estos decápodos se mantie-
nen con vida, labor sumamente complicada ya que si
no se les mantiene en las condiciones idóneas mueren
muy rápido y se corre el riesgo de que las toxinas que
emanan afecten la pesca completa. Ya que la población
de cangrejos se encuentra en descenso sólo se pueden
capturar a los machos adultos, así que deben pasar por
un proceso de selección manual dejando en libertad a
las hembras y los ejemplares jóvenes.
Además, el regreso a tierra firme es aún más pe-
ligroso, ya que las embarcaciones son mucho más
pesadas y la inclemencia del clima las deja al favor
de las olas, las cuales no son más pequeñas, ni el
mar menos calmo.

quires know-how, experience and insight of the

ly, and there is the risk that their toxic emissions
may affect the entire captured lot. Since the crab
population is dwindling, only the adult males
can be fished out so the crabs must pass through
a manual selection process, leaving the females
and the young specimens free.
Moreover, the return to firm land is even more
dangerous, because the boats are much heavier
and the inclement weather leaves them at the
mercy of the waves, which neither are smaller
nor calmer the sea.
