Mushing: The great Odyssey
In Anchorage, starting February and at the first
days of March, a series of very peculiar, character-
istic of the region races are carried out. They are
the Mushing or sled dog races, also known as the
Iditarod Great Sled Race. These sled dog races, Fur
Rendezvous, play a central role in the Anchorage
winter sports season festival.
The sled dog races activities, as amusing and
friendly competitions, might have existed for a
long time, almost the same as the relations be-
tween men and dogs, in the regions where the
snow was a seasonal likelihood. The first manu-
script tells about a race that was an informal dare
among travelers from the Winnipeg to St. Paul
route, in 1850.
Mushing, la gran odisea
En Anchorage, desde febrero y a principios del mes de
marzo, se celebran una serie de carreras muy peculia-
res y características de la región, se trata del Mushing o
carreras de trineos de perros, también conocidas como
carrera Iditarod. Estas competiciones de trineos tirados
por perros Fur Rendezvous, son un componente central
del carnaval anual de deportes de invierno de Anchorage.
Las actividades con trineos tirados por perros,
como esparcimiento y competición amistosa, pudie-
ron haber existido desde hace casi tanto tiempo como
la relación entre los perros y los humanos, en las re-
giones donde la nieve era una probabilidad estacional.
El primer manuscrito cuenta de una carrera que fue un
