Las luces del norte
En invierno, los lagos de Southcentral ofrecen la opor-
tunidad de probar suerte con la pesca en hielo y con
ello disfrutar de deporte clásico de invierno. Según la
Oficina de Convenciones y Visitantes de Anchorage. el
área cuenta con 28 lagos donde se puede llevar a cabo
esta actividad con la comodidad de los servicios y fa-
cilidades para sus visitantes, aunque en muchos otros
lagos de la región es posible pescar, siempre y cuando
se cuente con la respectiva licencia de pesca en línea.
Dentro de esta convivencia con la naturaleza y des-
pués de un día de actividades al aire libre, las noches
de Anchorage proporcionan algunas vistas increíbles
de las llamadas luces del Norte o auroras boreales. Nor-
malmente cuanto más baja sea la temperatura, mayor
es la posibilidad de verlas. La aparición de la aurora bo-
real varía, así que vale la pena pasar al menos un par
de noches durante la visita. Las mejores vistas son fre-
cuentemente alrededor de la medianoche, por lo que
muchos de los hoteles de Anchorage ofrecen una “lla-
mada para despertar y ver la aurora boreal”.
La celebración de 100 sus años en el 2015 es una
oportunidad para celebrar en una región que sorpren-
de por sus encantos naturales; sus seis cordilleras, 60
glaciares, parques naturales protegidos brindan una
inagotable fuente de sorpresas, al tiempo que los mu-
seos y centros culturales cuentan la historia de sus
pobladores. A una centuria de su comienzo, Anchora-
ge es una excepcional combinación de ciudad cosmo-
polita y de aventura.

Northern Lights
In the winter season, the Southcentral lakes offer
an opportunity to try one’s luck at ice fishing, and
thus to enjoy this classic wintertime sport. Accord-
ing to the Anchorage Convention & Visitors Bureau,
the region has 28 lakes where one can practice this
activity, with the comfort of services and facilities
for its visitors; though inmany other lakes of the re-
gion it is also possible to fish, on the condition that
one have the required on line fishing permit.
Within all this living communion with Na-
ture, and after a day of outdoor activities, An-
chorage nights give amazing views of the so
called Northern Lights or Aurora Borealis. Usu-
ally, the lower is temperature; the greater is the
possibility of seeing them. The appearance of the
Aurora Borealis varies, so it is worthy of spend-
ing at least a pair of nights awake during the vis-
it. The best views are often around midnight, so
many hotels in Anchorage offer a “wake up call to
see the Aurora Borealis.”
The 100th year celebration in 2015 is the op-
portunity to praise a region that amazes one
through its natural charms; its six mountain
ranges and 60 glaciers; and its natural protected
parks give an endless source of surprises, while
the museums and cultural centers tell the story
of their inhabitants. A century after its onset,
Anchorage is an exceptional combine of a cosmo-
politan city and adventure.
