donde descubrimos un perezoso, unos hoatzines y
oropéndolas. Caminando por la selva alcanzamos la
aldea Magdalena donde viven diez familias con loros y
monos como mascotas. Sin embargo continuamos en
el camino para llegar al lago Yanallpa para observar la
Victoria Regia en flor, cerca de las ceibas y de los heveas.
Navegando observábamos los balseros bananeros, los
pescadores en sus lanchas, unos lancheros que se dirigían
a los centros de comercio. Gozamos de un espectacular
atardecer cargado con las nubes amenazantes que
jugueteaban con la luz del sol.
El quinto día amanecimos con la neblina que absorbía
la selva y visitamos una pequeña aldea donde era día de
escuela, observamos la preparación de los alimentos que
llevan siempre pescado, el guía nos enseñaba los árboles
medicinales mientras unos monos titi de carita blanca
nos observaban y los pájaros alegraban el escenario.
Navegando río arriba llegamos a la desembocadura del
río Pacaya donde pudimos observar los delfines grises
y a los inusuales delfines rosados.
Al momento de registrarnos en la oficina del guarda-
bosque navegamos en lancha por el río Pacaya hasta el
lago Yanayacu. En este trayecto pudimos ver: perezosos,
loros, monos frailes, monos capuchinos y aulladores, unas
cigüeñas y los hoatzines. Sinembargo, el único atractivode
este recorrido no fue la hermosa selva del Amazonas, sino
la deliciosa comida que probamos en la cena de esa noche.
En el sexto día navegamos por el mismo Pacaya, ob-
servando la fauna y la flora, y nos detuvimos para pescar
unas pirañas anaranjadas que muerden al anzuelo con
sloths, hoatzines and golden orioles. As we walked
through the jungle, we reached the town of Magdalena,
where ten families reside with their respective
parrots and monkeys serving as pets. Nevertheless,
wemade our way to the Yanallpa Lake to observe the
Victoria Regia in its natural state, near the five-leaved
silk-cotton tree and the heveas. Once back at the river,
we observed the small trading vessels, the fishermen,
and a few locals travelling to the various ports to
sell their products. We enjoyed a spectacular sunset
charged with threatening clouds that played with
the sun rays.
On the the fifth day, we awoke to clouded sky that
enveloped the canopy, and we visited a small village
where it was school day, where we saw fish-based
food preparations. Our tour guide showed us medicinal
trees, while titi white-faced monkeys looked at us
and the birds filled the air with their song. Navigating
upstream, we arrived at the end of the Pacaya River,
where we again saw gray and unusual pink dolphins.
As we registered out entrance with the local
forest ranger, we made our way through the river by
boat until we arrived at Yanatacu Lake. Here we ob-
served sloths,frail,capuchinandhowlingmonkeysand
storks. Nevertheless, the only attractive sight was not
the beauty of the Amazon, but the delicious dinner we
enjoyed that night.
On the sixth day, we navigated again through
the Pacaya, observing the flora and fauna, until we
stopped to fish piranhas who, incidentally, bite the
