minimalist décor. Finally, we gazed at the elegant
houses and hotels of Punta Sal, where we parted
ways with our yacht to cross through the sun-baked
desert that would lead us to Piura.
Piura is an enchanting city, guarded by its cathe-
dral, and home to the elegant “Los Portales” hotel,
ideal for one toenjoy the typical cuisineof the region.
From here we boarded Lan’s plane which took
us back to Lima. Our journey through fantastic,
and surprisingly interesting Peruvian regions had
come to an end. The Amazon jungle had conquered
me with itsmysterious world inhabited by caimans,
sloths, monkeys and birds; inside that humid heat
that bathes the rivers that run towards the sea,
forming the great Amazon River.
The northern coast, arid and deserted, had en-
chantedmewith its beautiful colonial cities of Trujillo
and Cajamarca, its coast where the surf reigns, its ma-
jestic beaches, Pacasmayo andMáncora and, above all,
by its Moche huacas, those immense adobe pyramids
with remains of frescos and impressive tombs. I had
discovered another Peru, that which forgets Machu
Picchu and Cuzco, that with fascinates and surprises,
that intrigues and provokes dreams of the past while
the totora vessels take the lonely fishermen to face
the waves at the edge of a deserted coast.

cubrimos las elegantes casas y hoteles de Punta Sal,
donde nuevamente tuvimos que abandonar nuestro
yate para atravesar el desierto bajo que nos llevaría
hasta Piura.
Piura es una ciudad encantadora, vigilada por la
catedral y hogardel elegante hotel “Los Portales”,
ideal para disfrutar de la cocina típica de la región.
Aquí tomamos el avión de Lan que nos levaba de
regreso a Lima. Se acababa el recorrido de unas fasci-
nantes regiones peruanas, sorprendentemente inte-
resantes. La selva amazónica me había conquistado
por su misterioso mundo verde donde caimanes, pe-
rezosos, monos y pájaros habitan, en ese calor húme-
do que baña los ríos que corren hacia el mar, formando
el gran río Amazonas.
La costa norte, árida y desérticame había hechizado
por sus hermosas ciudades coloniales como Trujillo y
Cajamarca, su litoral donde reina el surf, sus encanta-
dores playas como Pacasmayo y Máncora y sobre todo
las huacas de los Moches, esas inmensas pirámides de
adobe con restos de frescos e impresionantes tumbas.
Había descubierto otro Perú, ese que olvidaMachu Picchu
y Cuzco, ese que fascina y sorprende, que intriga y que
hace soñar del pasado mientras las lanchas de totora
siguen llevando los solitarios pescadores para enfrentar
las olas a la orilla de una costa desértica.
