at a place called the “Baño del Inca”, where thermal wa-
ters surge. At the hotel “Laguna Seca” we were able to
enjoy these, which create large clouds of vapor during
the cool morning hours. Nearby there exists a room
that, legend has it, was built by the Inca people and
stacked with to keep Atahualpa frombeing executed.
Chiclayo
Back in Pacasmayo, we sailed once again northwards
until we reached the port of Pimentel wherewe enjoyed
the rice with duck and tortillas topped with sting ray
meat. Chiclayo is ahectic city that also features apromi-
nent cathedral and the majestic Gran Hotel Chiclayo.
But its main attraction is found in the beautiful arche-
ological Moche sites where tombs where found filled
with gold ornaments. We visited Sipán, where one can
admirehuacas in themiddle of a fertile valley. The town
of Túcume is home to a large number of tall pyramids:
Pampa Grande, BatánGrande and Ferreñafe.
The most distinctive attraction here, though, is
the Señor de Sipán museum, which displays the find-
ings of this important Moche leader, in whose tomb
are found elaborate jewelry made out of gold and cop-
per, necklacesmade of precious stones and shells, and
gold and turquoise earrings. It is a fascinating muse-
um found in the city of Lambayeque, as it the Bruning
Museum. One can visit the ruins of the colonial city of
Zaña, whichwas destroyed by earthquakes andfloods.

termales. En el hotel “Laguna Seca” pudimos gozar de
éstas, que en la fríamañana expulsan vapor. El cuarto del
rescate es una construcción inca que, según la leyenda,
los habitantes llenaron de oro para evitar que Atahualpa
fuera ejecutado.
Chiclayo
De regreso a Pacasmayo, navegamos de nuevo hacia el
norte hasta llegar al puerto donde disfrutaríamos de la
deliciosa tortilla de manta raya y del arroz con pato. Chi-
clayo es una ciudad ruidosa con una bella catedral y el
maravilloso Gran Hotel Chiclayo. Pero su atractivo reside
en la visita a los hermosos sitios arqueológicos Moche
donde fueron halladas unas tumbas con soberbias joyas
de oro. Visitamos Sipán, donde se admiran las huacas en
medio de un fértil valle. Túcume es el hogar de un gran
número de pirámides que impresionan por su altura:
Pampa grande, Batán Grande y Ferreñafe.
Pero lo más destacado del recorrido es el museo
del Señor de Sipán, que exhibe los hallazgos de éste
importante dirigente Moche, encuya tumba se encuen-
tran bellas joyas de oro o de cobre, collares de piedras
y conchas, al igual que aretes de oro y turquesa. Es un
museo fascinante en la ciudad colonial de Lambayeque,
así como también lo es el museo Brunin. Se pueden vi-
sitar las ruinas coloniales de la ciudad de Zaña, que fue
destruida por terremotos y la crecida del río.
