Los musulmanes sunitas
El tronco musulmán principal es el Ahl as-Sunna wa
l-Yama’a, o sea la Gente de la Sunna y la Comunidad.
Gravita en la creencia del Imama, que afirma que Alláh
envió profetas y designó a imames (o imanes) infalibles
en cada tiempo, con una posición especial para los doce
imames de Ahl al-Bait (Gente de la Casa). Este grupo
cristalizó sus creencias a partir de que se ocultó el do-
ceavo imam. Los sabios musulmanes los consideraron
Ahl al-Bid’a o Gente de Innovación.

Los católicos del rito maronita
Los maronitas son católicos orientales que de-
ben su nombre a San Marón, santo hombre, rígido
defensor de la fe católica en Oriente, monje modelo
cuyo ejemplo siguieron numerosos discípulos. Ma-
rón vivió en el siglo IV en las cercanías de Antio-
quía. De joven, siguiendo las enseñanzas del Divino
Maestro, dejó su familia y sus bienes y fue a buscar
la paz del Señor a lo alto de la montaña, dedicándo-
se a la oración, a la vida contemplativa y al trabajo.
Dios le dio el don de los milagros, sanando el cuerpo
y el espíritu.
Los maronitas no son una secta ni una religión
misteriosa o una iglesia disidente, sino una comu-
nidad católica de origen definido, una iglesia parti-
cular que reconoce al Vaticano, con un destino pro-
videncial en la historia de sus fieles y en la mística
de sus santos.

The Maronite Catholic Rite
The Maronites are Eastern Catholics who ac-
quired their name from St. Maron, holy man, rigid
defender of the Catholic faith in the East, a model
monkwhose example is followed bymany disciples.
Maron lived in the fourth century near Antioch. As
a young man, following the teaching of the Divine
Master, he left his family and his property and went
to seek the peace of the Lord to the top of the moun-
tain, dedicated to prayer, and the contemplation
of life and work. God gave him the gift of miracles,
healing the body and spirit.
The Maronites are not a cult or a religion or a
mysterious dissident church but a definite origin
of the Catholic community, a particular church
that recognizes the Vatican and a providential des-
tiny in the history of the faithful and the mystique
of its saints.
