arrived to the city fromVarenna in 1826, on board of
the first steamship that crossed the Lario Lake.
At the end of the XVIIIth century and for the next
100 years, Bellagiowas one of themost popular places
for the Lombard aristocracy. It was during those years
that themagnificent villaswith itsgardenswerebuilt,
that today themost important attractions are built in
this region. These palaces were visited and inhabited
by many characters over the history: artists, politi-
cians, aristocrats, intellectuals and scientists.
Themost famous among all the habitants of this
region is without a doubt, the great composer Franz
Liszt, who spent his endless honeymoonwithMarie
Cathèrine de Flavigny, Countess d’Agoult. Today,
when we remember this famous love story, people
says that anything gives more luck to a marriage
than spending the honeymoon in Bellagio.
Desde finales del s. XVIII y por los siguientes 100
años, Bellagio fue uno de los sitios más populares
para la aristocracia lombarda. Fue durante estos
años que se construyeron las imponentes villas con
sus jardines, que hoy en día constituyen las más
importantes atracciones en esta región. Estos pala-
cios fueron visitados y habitados por muchos perso-
najes de la historia: artistas, políticos, aristócratas,
intelectuales y científicos.
El más famoso entre todos los habitantes de
esta región es sin duda, el gran compositor Franz
Liszt, quien pasó aquí su interminable luna de
miel con Marie Cathèrine de Flavigny, Condesa
d’Agoult. Hoy en día, al recordar esta famosa his-
toria de amor, la gente dice que nada trae más
suerte a un matrimonio que pasar la luna de miel
en Bellagio.
