También es posible comprar la bebida con la cual,
durante casi dos siglos, se ha identificado a la ciudad:
el licor karlovarská Becherovka, así como su conocida
agua mineral Mattoni y sus dulces tradicionales, los
barquillos Lazenské oplatky.
En Nová Louka se encuentra una sede menor del
Museo Karlovarské Muzeum, y el Teatro del Siglo XIX.
Destaca también el Grandhotel Pupp, símbolo de la
ciudad, construido en 1701, con sus grandiosos
salones. De sus inmediaciones sale un funicular
hasta uno de los miradores de Karlovy Vary, a 585
metros de altitud.
La ciudad hermana de Brno
Aunque no cuenta con el abrumador número de visi-
tantes de su rival, Praga, Brno es la segunda ciudad
más grande y más importante de la República Checa
y sede histórica de la familia real de Premyslovci. El
rey Vaclav I entregó a Brno los derechos de ser ciudad
en el año 1243.
Actualmente la ciudad se esmera en ofrecer múl-
tiples opciones de entretenimiento a sus visitantes,
además de que se trata de una excelente base para
la exploración de la hermosa región de Moravia, de
la que es capital.
El panorama de la ciudad está marcado por el
castillo de Spilberk, que dentro de su complejo con-
serva el palacio de estilo gótico-temprano con dos
capillas. Spilberk se convirtió en una fortaleza barro-
ca y más tarde, en el siglo XIX, en cárcel para prisio-
neros políticos llamada La Cárcel de las Naciones.
En la colina Petrov se encuentra la catedral góti-
ca de San Pedro y San Pablo. El portal original del
ayuntamiento de la Ciudad Vieja data del siglo XVI, y

Although it doesn’t count with the overwhelming
number of visitors than its rival, Prague, Brno is
the second largest and most important city of the
Czech Republic and historic seat of the royal family
