El origen de Roma
Roma se fundó a finales del siglo VII a. C. en el Palatino,
una de las siete colinas del centro de la ciudad actual.
Según la leyenda, luego de que Numitor, rey de Alba
Longa, hubiera sido destituido del trono, su hermano
Amulio convirtió a la única hija de Numitor en una vir-
gen vestal para que no pudiera tener descendientes,
pero Marte, dios de la guerra, se enamoró de la her-
mosa joven y la sedujo para más tarde engendrar a dos
gemelos: Rómulo y Remo.
En el momento del parto el tío de la bella jo-
ven, enfurecido, mandó a asesinar a los gemelos,
pero el encargado de terminar con la vida de los
infantes, no pudo hacerlo y decidió abandonar a
las dos criaturas en una cesta en el río Tíber. La
corriente los arrastró hasta un pantano en medio
de las colinas del Palatino y Capitolino, en donde
una loba los encontró y llevó a una cueva y en vez
de devorarlos, los amamantó y cuidó hasta que el
pastor Faustolo y su esposa los encontraron. La
noble pareja decidió criar y proteger a los niños
hasta que crecieran, y fue entonces que se les re-
veló su verdadera identidad. Rómulo y Remo deci-
dieron vengarse del tío de su madre y devolverle el
trono a su abuelo.
The Origin of Rome
Rome was founded towards the end of the VII cen-
tury BC. in the Palatine, one of the seven hills at the
center of the actual city. According to legend, after
Numitor, King of Alba Longa, would have been over-
thrown, his brother Amulius forced the only daugh-
ter of Numitor into becoming a vestal virgin so she
could not have any offspring, but Mars, God of War,
fell in lovewith the beautiful girl and seduced her to
later sire two twins: Romulus and Remus.
At the moment of giving birth the uncle of the
beautiful girl, full with wrath, sent for the twins to be
killed, but the one charged with ending the life of the
infants,wasn’tabletobringhimselftodoitanddecides
to abandon both children in a basket on the Tiber river.
The current drags themdown toa swamp in themiddle
of the Palatine and Capitoline hills, where a she-wolf
found them, took themtoa cave and insteadof devour-
ing them, it breastfed themand cared after them, until
the shepherd Faustulus and his wife found them. The
noble couple decided to raise and protect the children
untiltheywouldgrowupanditwasthenthattheirtrue
identity was revealed to them. Romulus and Remus
decided to take revenge from the uncle of theirmother
andgive the throneback to their grandfather.
