Sobre las faldas de esta colina se encuentra una
de las fuentes más famosas y visitadas del mundo:
La Fontana di Trevi. Ha sido el escenario de escenas
románticas de películas e historias de amor como
La
dolce vita
, entre otras.
Esta majestuosa fuente sirve de fachada del
Palazzo Poli, ahora Instituto Nacional de Gráficos y,
anteriormente, propiedad de Giuseppe Lotario Con-
ti, duque de Poli y hermano del Papa Inocencio XIII,
quien adquirió la propiedad poco antes de la cons-
trucción de la fuente.
La Fontana di Tevi, que marca el punto final del
acueducto Aqua Virgo, fue diseñada por el arqui-
tecto Nicola Salvi en 1730, comisionado por el Papa
Clemente XII a través de un concurso, en el que éste
resultara ganador para construirla.
La historia del acueducto se remonta al periodo del
Imperio romano en el que el emperador Augusto, des-
cendiente de Julio César, lomandó construir con base en
una leyenda que cuenta cómo unos soldados romanos
que volvían de una batalla, perdidos y sedientos, en-
contraron a una virgen, quien les indicó unmanantial de
agua fresca y el camino de regreso a casa.

This majestic fountain serves as facade to the
Palazzo Poli, now the National Institute for the
Graphic Design and before that, property of Gi-
useppe Lotario Conti, Duke of Poli and brother to
the Pope Innocent XIII, who acquired the property a
little before the construction of the fountain.
LaFontanadi Trevi, thatmarks theendingpoint of
the Aqua Virgo aqueduct, was designed by the archi-
tect Nicola Salvi in 1730, he was commissioned with
its constructionby the Pope Clement XII bymeans of a
contest, inwhichhewas elected to build it.
The history of the aqueduct goes way back to the
Roman Empire period when the Emperor Augustus,
descendant of Julius Caesar, ordered its construc-
tion after a legend that tells of certain soldiers
while coming back from a battle, lost and thirsty,
encountered a virgin, who pointed them to a nearby
water spring and the way back home.
