Los jóvenes deseaban gobernar, así que acordaron
crear una nueva ciudad que sería fundada en el lugar
donde el pastor los había encontrado. Generalmen-
te las reglas establecían que el primogénito sería el
Rey, pero en este caso ambos habían nacido al mismo
tiempo, por lo tanto fueron hasta el lugar en donde
el pastor los había encontrado con la loba para deter-
minar en dónde la establecerían y quién sería el rey.
Rómulo quería llamar a su ciudad Roma y asentarla en
el monte Palatino, y Remo quería llamarla Remoria y
fundarla en el Aventino. Optaron por dejarlo a la suer-
te; quien viera más buitres volar sería el Rey de esta
nueva ciudad. Remo vio seis y Rómulo doce lo cual lo
hacia el ganador, pero Remo, no conforme con el re-
sultado, decidió llegar a las últimas consecuencias
incluso por medio de la violencia. La pelea concluyó
en la muerte de Remo y Rómulo primer rey de Roma,
fundada en el Palatino. Esto explica por qué aún ahora
se identifica como símbolo de Roma y de sus habitan-
tes, la escena de la loba que amamanta a los gemelos
Rómulo y Remo.
El rapto de las Sabinas
El primer problema que Rómulo tuvo que enfrentar al
inicio de su reinado fue que Roma se empezó a poblar
de inmigrantes de los pueblos cercanos, pero entre
los nuevos habitantes no había mujeres, por lo cual
temía que su ciudad viviera una sola generación, así
que Rómulo mandó a algunos emisarios a traer mu-
jeres de los pueblos vecinos, pero fueron rechazados.
Entonces decidió hacer un festejo y juegos con la ex-
cusa de la conmemoración de Neptuno e invitó a to-
das las poblaciones cercanas, entre los cuales estaban
los sabinos, quienes llevaron a sus hijas al festejo, sin
imaginar que todo era una farsa para raptarlas. Así fue
como Rómulo dio origen a la ciudad de Roma.

fly would be the King of this new city. Remus saw six
andRomulus sawtwelve thatwould turnhimin to the
winner but Remus, unhappy with the result decided
to get to the last consequences even by means of vio-
lence. The fight ended with the death of Remus and
withRomulusas thefirstKingofRome, founded inthe
Palatine. This explains why up to this day a symbol of
Rome and of their inhabitants, is the scene of the she-
wolf breastfeeding the Romulus and Remus twins.
The Rape of the Sabine Women
The first problem that Romulus had to face at the be-
ginning of his rule was that Rome started to get pop-
ulated by immigrants of neighboring villages, but
among thenew inhabitants therewerenowomen, and
therefore was afraid that his city would only live for
one generation. Thus Romulus sent some emissaries
to bring women from the neighbor villages, but they
were rejected. Then he decided to hold a celebration
andgameswiththepretenseof honoringNeptuneand
invited all neighboring towns, among them were the
Sabines, who took their daughters to the feast, unsus-
pecting that everythingwas aplot to rapt them. This is
thewayRomulus gave birth to the city of Rome.
