Con una población en franco crecimiento, los
colonizadores buscaron expandir su territorio despo-
jando a los habitantes nativos, los khoikhoi, forzán-
dolos a retirarse hacia el norte. A pesar de la
resistencia de los khoikhoi, los colonizadores se
impusieron y continuaron su avance.
Para principios del siglo XVIII la colonización del
territorio pasó a ser liderada por campesinos de ori-
gen holandés, conocidos como los
bóers
, quienes
establecieron un estilo de vida bélico y nómada.
Los enfrentamientos entre los
bóers
(o afrikáans)
y los diversos grupos de habitantes nativos fueron
constantes y caracterizaron la historia de este país
durante todo el siglo XVIII. Las guerras en los territo-
rios lejanos tuvieron también un impacto en las ciu-
dades, ocasionando un clima de incertidumbre e
inseguridad.
Los colonizadores empezaron a rebelarse y a
demandar independencia. La lucha interna de poder
terminó cuando los ingleses desembarcaron en Ciudad
del Cabo en 1795 tomando el control de la colonia.
Comenzaba así la rivalidad anglo-afrikáans que carac-
terizará la historia de ese país por años subsecuentes
culminando con las sangrientas guerras
bóers
.
En 1910 Sudáfrica comienza a vivir la era del
apartheid
o segregación que culminó oficialmente en

itants were constant and characterized the history
of this country throughout the XVIII th century.
The wars in the distant territories had also an
impact in the cities, causing an environment of
uncertainty and insecurity.
The colonists started to rebel and to demand
independency. The internal struggle of power finis-
hed when the English disembarked in 1795 in Cape
Town taking the control of the colony. This is how
the Anglo-Afrikaans rivalrywhich characterizes the
history of this country for the subsequent years
started culminating with the bloody Boers wars.
