para conmemorar el sueño en el cual la diosa de la
misericordia le concedía su primer hijo y heredero.
En la actualidad, las parejas que no pueden tener
hijos acuden a este lugar para pedir que se cumpla
su deseo. La construcción actual no es la original
ya que ha sido destruida varias veces.

Templo de la literatura
Levantado en honor a Confucio en el año 1070, ha
sido durante siglos el lugar donde educaron a los
hijos de los mandarines. Aquí se fundó la primera
universidad en 1076. La construcción tiene cinco
patios divididos por muros y el paso principal
entre ellos estaba dedicado al rey. Se encuentra al
oeste del lago Hoan Kiem.

Lago Hoan Kiem
La tortuga es un símbolo sagrado de este lago,
ubicado a un costado del barrio viejo. En el centro
del lago hay una pequeña pagoda en honor a la tor-
tuga dorada. De acuerdo a una vieja leyenda, una
tortuga fue el guardián de la espada mágica que
utilizó el emperador Le Loi en el siglo XV para
expulsar a los chinos.

Lago Thien Quang
Este pequeño lago congrega a mucha gente de la
ciudad. En sus calles y plazas se pueden ver a
amas de casa siguiendo las instrucciones de los
maestros de Tai Chi, niños jugando y gente dando
paseos.

the couples that cannot have children go to this
place to ask that their wish come true. The actual
construction is not the original one because it
has been destroyed several times.
• Temple of the literature
Raised in honor to Confucius in the year 1070, has
been for centuries, the place where themandarins
educated their children. In 1076 the first universi-
ty was founded here. The construction has five
patios divided by walls and the main passage
between them was dedicated to the king. It is
located to the west of the Lake Hoan Kiem.
• Lake Hoan Kiem
The turtle is a sacred symbol of this lake, located
aside of the Old Quarter. In the middle of the lake
there is a small pagoda in honor to the golden
turtle. According to an old legend, a turtle was
the guardian of themagic sword that the emperor
Le Loi used in the XVth century to expel the
Chinese.
• Lake Thien Qu?ng
This small lake congregates a lot of people of the
city. In its streets and squares you may watch
some house wives following the instructions of
the masters of Tai Chi, children playing and peo-
ple out for walks.
