LASGARRAFAS
ÓleosobreteladeLeovigidioMartínez (1959)
Esta obra es figurativa, festiva y retoma ciertos
personajes de la cultura de los barrios de Oaxaca
comoMartín “el loco” y el señor Cayetano, el último
de los aguadores que existieron. Estos personajes:
borrachos, prostitutas y cargadores con carretones
siempreagarrando fuerzaconelmezcalparacargarsu
mecapal, losveíadeniñoy elpintor se los imaginaba
conmáscaras, pensando que por dentro se reían de
todo loquehacían.
Estudia en el Centro de Educación Artística de
Oaxaca,yenelTallerdeArtesPlásticasRufinoTamayo.
Sprimera exposición fueunamuestra colectivade la
primera generalción del Rufino Tamayo, en la ciudad
deMéxico, en la Galería Tierra Adentro.Ha expuesto
enMéxico, Estados Unidos, Bélgica, Canadá, Japón y
Australia,entreotrospaíses.Sumuralmás importante
está en la ciudad deMéxico, en el Hospital Infantil,
intitulado “JuegosPerdidos”.
En cadaobra, Leovigildopretendedar siempreun
mensajeporque, adecirdeél, “lavidaesmuy cortay
hagas loquehagas,hayquedivertirse.”

Thiswork is figurative, festive and presents three
culturalfiguresof thedistrictsofOaxacaasMartín
“crazy”andCayetanowhowas the lastof thewater
carriers that existed. These characters: drunks,
prostitutes and workers with power cars always
usingmezcal to build up strength to carry their
load, as a child the painter saw all of them andhe
imagined themwithmasks, thinkingand laughing
insideateverythingtheydid.
Leovigidiostudiedat theArtsEducationCenter
of Oaxaca and the Plastic Arts Workshop Rufino
Tamayo. His first exhibition was a group show of
the first generation of Rufino Tamayo in Mexico
City in theTierraAdentrogallery.Hehas exhibited
in Mexico, the United States, Belgium, Canada,
JapanandAustria,amongothercountries.Hismost
importantmural inMexico City, in the children’s
hospital,entitled “LostGames”.
