the city also commemorates the 90th anniversary
of the Alaska Railroad construction completion,
when President Warren G. Harding hammered the
ceremonial golden nail; which marked the last part
of the track connecting the northern extreme of the
railroad with Anchorage. These festivities will cul-
minate this year, when the 100th anniversary of the
city is formally celebrated.
However, the party will not be over, still the citi-
zens are getting ready to commemorate the 1867
Treaty with Russia for the Purchase of Alaska by the
United States; almost 150 years ago. This celebra-
tion will be held on October 18, Alaska Day, 2017.
