el turismo internacional. En los últimos años,
esta ciudad ha sido reconocida a nivel mundial
como el destino que fusiona la historia de una cultura an-
cestral y la modernidad del siglo XXI. Ha crecido alrededor
del conocido ‘
Dubai Creek
’ que es un arroyo de agua
natural de mar que cruza en medio del Golfo Arábigo
dividiendo la ciudad en dos: Bur Dubai y Deira, ambas
partes cuentan con grandes atracciones.
El circuito turístico principal se encuentra entre
Bur Dubai y Deira, que son las zonas opuestas a la cur-
vatura de Dubai Creek, y que representa una atracción
en sí misma, ya que permite observar desde el agua,
algunos de los rascacielos más altos del mundo.
Deira cuenta con muchas atracciones como el cas-
co histórico de Bastakia, los viejos zocos y los mercados
cubiertos. Igualmente aquí, se puede pasear por los ca-
llejones, explorar el Zoco de Especias y el mercado del
oro. Otro gran atractivo turístico, que no puede dejar de
visitarse es El Museo de Dubai que se encuentra en el
restaurado Al Fahidi Fort. Éste fue construido en 1799
para defender la ciudad contra la invasión, y ha servido
como palacio y prisión. La colección del museo incluye
figuras de tamaño natural y las galerías que representan
la cultura árabe a través de sus casas, mezquitas, jar-
dines, el desierto y la vida marina.
Por el lado de Bur Dubai, está el Heritage Village,
situado en la zona Shindagah, que es un destino familiar
donde se pueden ver alfareros, tejedores y artesanos
trabajando y ofreciendo sus obras. La aldea contigua

world. This city has been recognized as a destina-
tion that has successfully merged their ancestral
heritage with the present times. The city of Dubai
has grown and developed around “Dubai Creek”, a
naturally occurring stream of ocean water that cross-
es through themiddle of the Arabic Gulf, dividing the
city in two; Bur Dubai and Deira, both cities boasting
their own respective attractions.
Within these two sectors of the city lays a myriad
of tourist attractions, which play polar opposite to the
soothingambiencefoundinDubaiCreek,whichisanat-
tractionby itself, given that it is a perfect vantage point
to admire some of the tallest buildings in theworld.
Respecting Deira, it harbors quite an impressive
number of attractions: the historical center of Basta-
kiya, the ancient souks and indoor markets, to name a
few. Here, one can walk through the narrow streets and
explore the Spice Souk, and the markets that sell crafts
made of gold. Another popular and magnificent attrac-
tion is the Dubai Museum, which is housed inside the Al
Fahidi Fort. Built in 1799 to defend the city from foreign
invaders, the Fort has served as both palace, and prison.
It’s collection boasts life-sized sculptures, and galleries
that present Arab culture though themeans of houses,
mosques, gardens, the desert and itsmarine life.
