de musgo gracias al calor y la humedad constante. En
Goa Gajah, la cueva del elefante, admiramos la fantás-
tica entrada tallada en la roca que reproduce animales,
hojas, olas y demonios, entre los arrozales escalona-
dos. Fue un gran placer andar en bicicleta por los arro-
zales, saludando a los campesinos y llegando a aldeas
adornadas de flores y templos.
La carretera nos subió hacia el volcán como si
fuera un sendero hacia el paraíso, en medio de selva
con orquídeas en flor, palmas de coco, arrozales en
terrazas donde corría el agua en canales de riego en
los que se bañaban las mujeres de piel dorada y ojos
almendrados. En Tampaksiring visitamos los antiguos
manantiales sagrados que liberan unas aguas turque-
sas por las bocas de los dragones de piedra, rodeados
por templos. En la cima, nos sentamos para observar
el lago que habita el cráter del volcán Batur de 1720m.

into irrigation canals that are bathed in the golden-
skinned women and almond eyes. In Tampaksiring
we visited the ancient sacred springs turquoise
waters released from the mouths of the dragons of
stone, surrounded by temples. At the top, we sat
down to watch the lake which inhabits the Batur
