Por un lado, el saqueo fomentado por lo atractivo
de los precios en el extranjero es una lucha sin cuar-
tel, pero tomando en cuenta que en un alto porcentaje
la demanda la crean las instituciones que pujarán por
conseguirlas para mejorar sus colecciones y exponer
mejores cosas, habría que diseñar –como ya dije an-
tes– una metodología para que pujaran por las piezas
que tiene el Estado en inventario, de tal manera que se
combata el saqueo y se habiliten en exhibición tantas
piezas que hoy no se tienen ni siquiera restauradas.
Por otro lado, debiera ser del parecer de mucha gen-
te e instituciones, no sólo de turismo, el despertar el
atractivo por venir a México con la enorme publicidad
que este proyecto acarrearía.
La pasión por el coleccionismo particular ha sido
ya de por sí golpeado al hacer publicidad el INAH y
la SRE de la falsificación de piezas llevando mate-
rial y mano de obra artesanal, y muchas veces nati-
va, a manufacturar, como se hizo entonces, piezas
como la que subasto Drouot hace tres años en 4.2
millones de dólares. Seguir afectando la naturaleza
de las piezas con periodicazos ha sido de gran ayu-
da para meter en la cabeza de los inexpertos com-
pradores la duda sobre su autenticidad. Perseguir
penalmente a los dueños de las casas de subastas
pondría al tanto a los malos compatriotas que les
venden del riesgo en que incurren al hacerlo.
México debe tomar cartas en el asunto de ma-
nera más enérgica, pues pasan los años y subastas
van y vienen sin que se respeten integralmente
los tratados.
It’s a fight with no quarrel on one side the loot-
ing fomented by attractive prices in foreign coun-
tries but considering that a high percentage of the
demand is created by institutions that will bid to
improve their collections in order to exhibit better
things we would have to, like I said before, design a
methodology so they could bid on an inventory of
pieces the state has in such a way that on one hand
we could fight looting and showcase all this pieces
that no one has, not even restored. On the other hand
it should be on themind of many people and institu-
tions no just from tourism to awaken the attractive-
ness of coming to Mexico with the enormous public-
ity that this project would create.
Passion for private collecting has already taken a
hit with the publicity from INAH and the Ministry of
Foreign Affairs (SRE) on the forgery of the pieces with
material and handmade labor and many times native
to manufacture as was done with pieces like the one
auctioned at Drouot three years ago for 4.2millions of
dollars continuing to affect the nature of the pieces
withnews on the paper has been of great help to place
doubt in the minds of inexpert buyers about the au-
thenticity of the pieces. To criminally prosecute the
owners of the auction houses would put the bad com-
patriots that make the sells up to speed in regards to
the risk they take indoing so.
Mexico must take cards on the matter in a more
energetic way since the years keep passing by and
auctions come and go with no integral respect for
the treaties meant for that purpose.
