• The official currency of Brazil is the Rais ($R). In
some cases it can be difficult to acquire small
bills, since youwould bemore interested in keep-
ing them to make some shopping and save the
big ones for restaurants or hotels.
• Riode Janeiro is GMT -3. The summer schedule ends

choose to make a road trip through endless high-
ways, it will be necessary to take your driver´

license along with the international driver’s per-
mit, that can be acquired in the transit depart-
ment for 5 to 6 Rais. We recommend to not driv-
ing after sun down, not only through the states
but on the highways, due to the transit of buses
and lack of illumination.
• The commercial hours for most establishments,
is usually from 9 to 18 hrs. From Monday to Sat-
urday, except for the big shopping malls that ex-
tend their business hours until 10 pm. Sundays
are closed. Offices and banks have a schedule from
Monday through Friday from10 am to 4:00 pm.

• La moneda oficial de Brasil es el Real ($R). En algunos
casos puede ser difícil adquirir billetes pequeños, ya
que le interesará guardarlos para realizar pequeñas
compras y guardar los billetes grandes para poder
cambiarlos en hoteles y restaurantes.
• Río de Janeiro es GMT -3. El cambio de horario de
verano acaba en Febrero y empieza en Octubre.
• La mejor información que podemos obtener so-
bre las precauciones a tomar, es en un Centro de
Vacunación Internacional, ellos aconsejarán más
apropiadamente según la zona que sea visitada. De
cualquier forma, la vacuna de fiebre amarilla está
recomendada para visitar 18 estados, entre ellos,
Amazonas, Bahía Distrito Federal, Minas Gerais, São
Paulo, Maranhao, Para, etc. De cualquier forma, las
grandes ciudades, São Paulo, Río de Janeiro, Sal-
vador de Bahía y el litoral, se encuentran fuera de
riesgo. Debido a un reciente brote de Dengue en los
Estados de Bahía y Río de Janeiro, deberemos tener
especial cuidado con las picaduras de mosquitos,
con repelentes, mangas largas, pantalones largos,
mosquiteras, etc., ya que es la única forma de evitar
la enfermedad. Si el viaje es a la Amazonia, también
se deberá tomar tratamiento antipalúdico.
• En Brasil se conduce por la derecha, y si se da el
caso de viajar por carreteras que no tienen final, es
necesario llevar la licencia de conducir, junto con el
permiso de conductor internacional, que se puede
adquirir en la Jefatura de Tráfico por aproximada-
mente unos 5 ó 6 reales. Se recomienda no con-
ducir por las noches, no sólo por el estado de las
carreteras, sino por el gran tránsito de camiones y
la falta de iluminación.
• El horario comercial de la mayoría de los estableci-
mientos suele ser de 9 a 18 h. de lunes a sábado,
excepto los grandes centros comerciales, que ex-
tienden su horario hasta las 22 h. Los domingos
cierran. Las oficinas y bancos tienen un horario de
lunes a viernes de 10 a 16 h.
