Rio Grande Do Sul
Rio Grande do Sul es una de las 27 unidades fede-
rativas del Brasil. Situado en el sur, tiene límites en
cuanto al estado de Santa Catarina, al norte, el Océa-
no Atlántico al este, Uruguay hacia el sur y Argenti-
na al oeste. Su capital es la ciudad de Porto Alegre y
otras ciudades importantes son: Caxias do Sul, Pelo-
tas, Canoas, Rio Grande y Santa Maria.
El Estado tiene un papel notable en la historia de
Brasil, después de haber sido el escenario de la Guerra
de la Trapería, la guerra civil de la mayoría del país, y el
conflicto armado más largo de las Américas. Su pobla-
ción se compone en gran parte de los descendientes
de indios, portugués, alemán, italiano, africano y asiá-
tico. En ciertas regiones del estado, como la región de
Serra Gaucha y la mitad sur del país, todavía se puede
escuchar el idioma italiano y dialectos del alemán.
Rio Grande Do Sul

the west. Its capital is the city of Porto Alegre and

as, Rio Grande and Santa Maria.
The state has a significant role in the history
of Brazil, having been the site of the War of Tatters,
which was the civil war for most of the country,
and the longest armed conflict in the Americas. Its
population is largely made up of the descendants
of Indians, Portuguese, German, Italian, African and
Asian. In certain regions of the state, such as Serra
Gaucha and the southern half of the country, you
can still hear the Italian and German dialects.
