Day 5
We chose March to make the journy, which al-
lowed, along with the enjoyable weather in the
last day ot our stay go aboard the small boats once
more for a last expedition. The waterfron com-
munity of Belen awaited for us. The curious thing
about this plave is
The way they build their houses and tents, in
such a way they float on the river. We took a stroll
at the traditional market of food from the Peruvi-
an Amazon; this is the place where several people
gather to sell and purchase products. Here you will
find almost anything and it is a good occassion to
acquire some ethnic gifts.
By lunch, we had all packed and ready. We ate
some friut and began the journy to Iquitos. The con-
trats was surprising.
Five days sailing the Amazons, crossing the
Pacaya Samiria reservoir, and coexisting with
a varity of wildlife sufficed to make us feel like
strangers amongst people and the unmoving
cement of the city. By the way, she was right. Is
there anyother way to exprience the lung of the
earth, if it isn’t saling in absolut luxury aboard a
five star criuse?
Día 5
En nuestro caso, hemos elegido marzo para rea-
lizar el viaje, situación que permitió, sumado al buen
clima en el último día del crucero, subirnosa las lan-
chas por una salida más. La comunidad ribereña de
Belén aguardaba por nosotros. Lo curioso de este po-
blado consiste en
cómo arman sus casas y tiendas, de manera tal que
flotan sobre el río. Caminamos por el mercado tradicio-
nal de alimentos de la amazonia peruana; este es el lugar
donde varios de los pobladores se reúnen para vender y
comprar sus productos. Aquí se puede encontrar de
todo y es una buena ocasión para adquirir algunos ob-
sequios autóctonos.
Para la hora del almuerzo, teníamos todo empa-
cado y listo. Almorzamos unas frutas e iniciamos el
traslado a Iquitos. El contraste fue chocante.
Cinco días navegando el Amazonas, recorriendo
la reserva Pacaya Samiria, conviviendo con una ini-
maginable variedad de animales salvajes bastó para
hacernos sentir un poco extraños entre la gente y el
inmóvil cemento de la ciudad. Por cierto, ella está en
lo cierto. ¿Qué otra mejor manera de experimentar el
pulmón del mundo, sino es navegando en la absoluta
comodidad de un crucero cinco estrellas?
