la selva, pero seguimos nuestro recorrido, pasando
por el típico pueblo de Lanquín dominado por su igle-
sia y el mismo camino nos llevó al río Cahabón donde
unos turistas se echaban desde una gran roca junto
con los nativos, clavándose en el agua transparente.
Caminando río arriba, alcanzamos las hermosas po-
zas de Semuc Champey donde el río recorre un an-
gosto cañón diversificándose en estanques de color
jade y pequeñas cascadas que animan las rocas cu-
biertos de depósitos minerales, ofreciendo un pano-
rama excepcional. Exploramos los ruidos intrigantes,
observando las orquídeas y bromelias, hasta llegar
a un mirador desde el cual se observaba las pozas
esmeraldas en el fondo de la barranca. El escenario
era espectacular, la vegetación creaba un marco fas-
tuoso para ese río de esmeralda dividido en extrañas
formas por las rocas. Después de bajar entre la sel-
va, nos bañamos en las pozas, disfrutando del agua
fresca. Fue un momento saturado de misticismo con
olor a paraíso, observando los pájaros y las maripo-
sas. Cuando el sol se estaba escondiendo detrás de
las montañas, regresamos al hotel para disfrutar de
la cena y gozar de los intrigantes ruidos de la noche
en medio de la selva.
Temprano en la mañana, en el mismo coche doble
tracción nos fuimos por un camino que bordeaba el río
Cahabón hasta el pequeño pueblo donde nos esperaba
todo el equipo de los que nos iban a llevar en rafting.

that took us to the Cahabón river, a place were a few
tourist would throw themselves into the water from
the topof a large rock, localswatchingnearby.Walking
upstream, we reached the beautiful puddles of Semuc
Champey, where the river travels through a narrow
canyon, diversifying itself inponds of jade colours and
small waterfalls that animate the rocks covered with
mineral deposits, offering an exceptional panorama.
We explored the intriguing sounds, observing the or-
chids and the bromeliads, until we arrived at the view-
point where one can observe the emerald ponds on
the deepest parts of the precipice. It was a spectacular
scenery, the vegetation created a lavish frame for that
emerald river divided in strange forms by the rocks.
After walking downstream through the jungle we
bathed in the ponds, enjoying the fresh water. It was a
moment saturated inmysticismand the smell of para-
dise, observing the birds and the butterflies. When the
sunbegan to set behind themountains, we returned to
the hotel to enjoy dinner and mysterious sounds cre-
ated by the jungle at night.
Early next morning, inside the same double trac-
tion vehicle, we drove down a road that bordered the
Cahabón river until we arrived to the small town
which held all of the equipment that would take us
