rafting. A peaceful town by the water where the boats
werewaiting for us. We began tonavigate through the
currents,discoveringthesumptuouslandscape,alone
inside the jungle adorned withmountains. Some rap-
idswelcomeduswith a goodpace, and a sense of play-
ful danger; the boat would rise and drop with force,
tormented by the flow of the river and fighting with
the rocks that were created by those white waters full
of vortexes. The adrenaline rose, excitement invaded
us, completely enthralled inside the magnificent
scenery. Finally, after many incidents on the river,
we reached the hanging bridge and the vehicle that
waited for us on the shore. We peacefully made our
way back to Cobán to continue our travels through the
jungle andmountains up towards the valley.
History and tradition
Once settled inside the luxurious Vista Real hotel that
dominates one of the various hills and ridges of this
Guatemalan city, we enjoyed the Spa and the pool, vis-
ited thehistoric center –home to theGovernment pal-
ace, and the cathedral that adorns the immense plaza

Un pueblo tranquilo junto al agua viva donde nos es-
peraba la lancha. Empezamos a navegar mientras nos
llevaba la corriente, descubriendo el suntuoso paisaje,
solos entre la selva que adornaba las montañas. Unos
rápidos nos recibieron con buena velocidad y diverti-
do peligro, la lancha subía y bajaba con fuerza, ator-
mentada por el flujo del río y peleando con las piedras
que creaban esas aguas blancas llenas de remolinos.
La adrenalina subía, la emoción nos invadía, hundidos
dentro de la magnificencia del escenario. Finalmente
después de varias peripecias al flote del río, alcanza-
mos un puente colgante junto al cual nos esperaba
el coche. Tranquilamente regresamos a Cobán para
seguir nuestro camino por bosques y montes hasta
subir hacia el valle de la capital.
Historia y tradición
Instalados en el lujoso hotel Vista Real que domina
una de las tantas colinas y barrancas de la ciudad de
Guatemala, disfrutando el Spa y la piscina, visitamos
el centro histórico con el palacio de gobierno y la ca-
tedral que adornan la inmensa plaza, el museo Popol
Vuh para admirar los sorprendentes vasos mayas
decorados con escenas surgidas de la gloriosa época
de los grandes reinos, la universidad Francisco Marro-
