Belén y Hebrón
Belén o Bethlehem, una de las ciudades más anti-
guas del mundo creada en el siglo 14 a.C., se encuen-
tra en territorio palestino y el chofer judío me dejó del
lado israelita del muro, un chofer cristiano me llevó al
centro, quejándose de la poca afluencia de turistas,
hasta llegar a la iglesia de la Natividad, al final de una
gran explanada muy animada. Dentro de la misteriosa
y oscura iglesia que data del siglo 12, adornada de im-
ponentes columnas, una escalera nos llevó a la gruta
donde nació Jesús. Lugar sagrado de los cristianos,
en esas piedras retumban las voces de tantas misas
navideñas que se han cantado en ese recinto.
Con un chofer palestino, Mohamed, nos fuimos
por los viñedos entre las colinas palestinas, pasan-
do los
Check-point
, y entramos a Hebrón por calles
sinuosas, llenas de hoyos y obstáculos de cemento.
Alí estaba a la puerta de su tienda frente a la cual nos
estacionamos y nos invitó a tomar el té. Caminamos
por los callejones del mercado para entrar al bazar
completamente desierto, vigilado por soldados desde
las ventanas más altas, las tiendas estaban cerradas
y en la única abierta su dueño me suplicaba comprara
algo. Llegamos a la mezquita de Ibrahim, sitio de las
tumbas de los Patriarcas.
Asentada sobre la cueva de Machpelah, en esa in-
trigante mezquita se encuentran una sinagoga y los
cenotafios de Abraham, Isaac, Rebeca, Jacob, Leah,
se alzan al estilo mameluco, patriarcas y símbolos
del Judaísmo y del Islam, cuerpos de los que vivían
en el antiguo testamento.
Después de visitar el soplador de vidrio, co-
mimos en un restaurante típico palestino, tabule,
kepe, pan, ensaladas, keftas, y regresamos a Je-
rusalén, atónitos, embriagados por la impresión de
ese famoso Hebrón, centro de conflicto y lleno de
paz religiosa con gente amable.
Belemand Hebron
Belem, or Bethlehem, one of the oldest cities in
the world created B.C. in the XIVcentury is in Pales-
tinian territory and the Jewish chauffeur left aside
me, a Christian chauffeur took me to the center, he
was complaining about the little affluence of tou-
rists, until arriving at the church of the Nativity, at
the end of a great very lively esplanade. Inside the

took us to the grotto where Jesus was born. Sacred
place of the Christians, in those stones the voices
of many Christians masses that have been sung in
that enclosure resounds.
With a Palestinian chauffeur, Mohamed, we left
for the vineyards among the Palestinian hills, pass-
ing theCheck-point, andweentered toHebronfor ser-
pentine streets, full with holes and cement obstacles.
Alí was outside of his store’s door in front of whichwe
parked ourselves and he invited us to take a tea. We
walked between the alleys of the market for entering
to the deserted bazaar, we watched over by soldiers
from the highest windows, the stores were closed
and in the only one opened its owner begged me bu-
yingsomething.Wearrivedat themosqueof Ibrahim,
place of the tombs of the Patriarches.
The cave of Machpelah was seated on that in-
triguing mosque they are a synagogue and the
cenotaphs of Abraham, Isaac, Rebeca, Jacob, Leah,
runs off with to the Mameluke style, patriarches
and symbols of the Judaism and of the Islam, char-
acters who lived in the old testament times.
After visiting the glass blower, we ate in a Palesti-
niantypical restaurant, tabute, kepe, bread, salads, kef-
tas, and we returned to Jerusalem amazed, astonished
for the impressionof that famousHebron, conflict’s re-
ligious center and full of peace andkindpeople.
