Que entren los ingleses
En 1667 un importante número de novo ingleses
llegaron a aquel puerto para comprar tierras. La po-
blación crecía tanto como la agricultura, el tabaco y
la pesca. Los negocios florecieron y la actividad na-
val comenzó a expandirse entre Nueva York y Nueva
Jersey. Durante la ocupación inglesa las religiones
se diversificaron.
Un pacto entre el rey de Inglaterra y el rey de Fran-
cia contenía el propósito de destrozar las rutas de in-
tercambio holandesas. En respuesta, el gobierno de
Holanda envió barcos con tropas que recuperaron en
1673 el control de la ciudad. Nueva York fue renom-
brada como Nueva Orange. Esta acción tuvo conse-
cuencias, y Holanda no pudo costear la guerra con dos
vastos imperios. De mala gana cedió el territorio ad-
quirido a los ingleses nuevamente. La Nueva Orange
sólo existió por un año y finalizó en 1674. Para enfa-
tizar su posición, Inglaterra declaró a Edmund Andros
gobernador de la ciudad de Nueva York.
Let the English arrive
In 1667, an important number of arriving English-
men arrived to port in order to buy land. Not only
was the population expanding, but also agriculture,
the tobacco industry, and fishery. Business flour-
ished, and naval activity in the reached the waters
of what is now known as New Jersey. During this
time of English occupation, religion diversified.
A pact between the Kind of England the King
of France contained a proposition of obliterating
Dutch trade routes. In response, the Governor of Hol-
land sent battleships that retook control of the city
in 1673. New York was renamed, “New Orange.” This
action had consequences, and Holland was not able
to finance the expenditures of war against two vast
empires. They reluctantly gave up the territory they
had acquired from the English once again. The New
Orange only lasted for a year, andwas renamed again
in 1674. To emphasize its position, England declared
Edmund Andros as Governor of the city of New York.
