No todo lo que brilla es oro
Cuatro regiones geográficas de Nueva York se esta-
blecieron en 1638, durante el gobierno de Thomas
Dongan. Fue hasta el siglo XX cuando una quinta re-
gión se formó: Bronx.
En un esfuerzo por consolidar esta nueva tierra, el rey
mantuvo el territorio de Nueva Inglaterra y el dominio de
Nueva York. El antiguo gobernador Andros se fue a Bos-
ton para agilizar el proceso. Mientras tanto, en Inglaterra
el rey James abdicó al trono y William de Orange, quien
era holandés, fue nombrado William III. Durante este pe-
riodo, Andros fue encarcelado. El coronel Henry Sloughter
tomó el cargo de gobernador en 1689. En cuanto murió
Sloughter, el Sr. Fletcher, un experto en bienes raíces y
político ingenioso, fue asignado en el puesto.

New York was divided into four geographical regions
that were established in 1638, during the tenure of
Thomas Dongan as Governor. It was not until the 20th
century that a fifth regionwas formed: the Bronx.
In an effort to consolidate this new land, the King
ruled over the New England territory and the domains
of New York. The former Governor Andros moved to
Boston to facilitate theprocess. Meanwhile, inEngland,
King James abdicated the throne, and William of Or-
ange, a Dutchman, was named William III. During this
period, Andros was jailed. The colonel Henry Slouther
took charge as Governor in 1689. Yet, as soon as he
passed away, Mr. Fletcher, a savvy real estate agent and
ingeniouspolitician, was assigned to thepost.
