a reacción negativa a la música de Richard Wag-
ner se vio reflejada en varias formas, incluyen-
do el Impresionismo de Debussy y el Expresio-
nismo de Arnold Schoenberg. También se recibió en el
movimiento nacional que se levantó en Rusia entre el
grupo de músicos llamados Los Poderosos Cinco. Ins-
pirados por los ejemplos de Glinka y Dargomizhsky,
los compositores Balakirev, Borodin, Moussorgsky, Cui
y Rimsky-Korsakov se opusieron a que su música fue-
ra un reflejo de otros países, especialmente Alemania.
En su misión de proyectar individualidad llegaron a un
estilo que tenía raíces profundas en el idioma ruso y
las fuentes folclóricas. Crearon un tipo de música que
no se confunde con ningún otro país. En generaciones
posteriores se aprecia la influencia de Los Cinco en las
piezas magistrales de Piotr Ilich Tchaikovsky, Serge
Rachmaninoff y hasta Dmitri Shostakovich.

amongst the group of musicians called The Mighty
Handfull. Inspiredby the examples of Glinka, and Dar-

theirmusicwasareflexiónofothercountries,specially
Germany. Intheirmisióntocommunicate individuali-

music that cannot be mistaken for any other country.
In next generations the influence of the Mighty Five
is felt in the superiorWorks of Piotr Ilich Tchaikovsky,
Serge Rachmaninoff and also Dmitri Shostakovich.
