de las montañas se alza el Castillo medieval de Vezio,
construido sobre una torre romana, con unas vistas
espectaculares sobre el lago. Nos detuvimos en Bella-
no para respirar su ambiente histórico entre angostas
calles bordeadas de casas con escudos, y finalmente al-
canzamos la Abbazia di Piona, una hermosa abadía Clu-
niacense escondida en una pequeña península boscosa,
rodeada por la majestuosidad de las altas montañas; su
jardín encantado ofrece las mejores vistas del lago y
su claustro luce unos arcos con capiteles de extrañas
figuras y unos frescos del siglo XIII; su iglesia de San Ni-
colao está adornada con pequeños arcos y pilastras y el
campanario deja sonar su campana como una música
inventada por los ángeles de las montañas.
Seguimos nuestra ruta hasta Colico el río Adda,
uno de los ríos que alimenta el Lago di Como después
de pasar por el Lago di Mezzola, y alcanzamos la ri-
bera occidental. Nos detuvimos en Gravedona para
visitar Santa María del Tiglio (siglo XII), la iglesia ro-
mánica más famosa por sus muros de piedra blanca
y negra y su campanario octogonal. En su nave des-
tacan un crucifijo de madera del siglo XII, su suelo de
mosaicos del siglo VI y varios frescos extraordina-
rios. El fuerte español, en las afueras, fue construido
en 1640 para defender el valle del río Adda. Final-
mente, regresamos al Grand Hotel Tremezzo cuando
el sol desaparecía detrás de las montañas, pintando
de oro las riberas del mágico Lago di Como. La luna

tains stands the medieval castle of Vezio, built on a
Roman tower, with spectacular views over the lake.
We stopped at Bellano breathing its historic atmo-
sphere between narrow streets lined with houses
with shields, and finally reached the Abbazia di
Fiona, a beautiful Cluniac abbey hidden in a small
wooded peninsula, surrounded by the majesty of
the high mountains, their enchanted garden of-
fers the best views of the lake and its cloister shows
arches with capitals of strange figures and frescoes
of the thirteenth century; the church of San Nicolao
is decorated with small arches and pillars; and the
bell stops ringing his bell as a music invented by
the angels on the mountains.
We continue our route to Colico, the Adda river,
one of the rivers feeding the Lago di Como, after
passing the Lago di Mezzola, and reach the west
bank. We stopped at Gravedona to visit Santa Maria
del Tiglio (twelfth century), the Romanesque church
famous for its stone walls and black and white oc-
tagonal belfry. In his nave includes a wooden cru-
cifix of the twelfth century, the mosaic floor of the
sixth century and several extra frescoes. The Span-
ish fort on the outskirts, was built in 1640 to defend
the valley of the River Adda. Finally, we return to the
Grand Hotel Tremezzo when the sun disappeared
behind the mountains, painting gold the banks of
Lago di Como. A magic moon arose, rounder, and
