Nombrada Patrimonio de la Humanidad por la
UNESCO, Torun seduce por su ambiente medieval
y sus casas góticas; la Dom Pod Gwiazda con su rica
fachada decorada en estuco y su escalera de caracol,
y es un placer descubrir todas esas fachadas góticas
con pinturas murales mientras caminábamos por los
callejones medievales.
Absorbidos por la belleza de las casas y el encan-
tador ambiente con el vaivén constante de la gente,
alcanzamos la plaza mayor ocupada por el ayunta-
miento en el centro, uno de los más monumentales de
Polonia, con su imponente torre de ladrillo que domina
la estatua de Copérnico. Descubrimos la Catedral Basí-
lica de San Juan Bautista y San Juan Evangelista, cons-
truida en el siglo XIV, majestuosa y fascinante, con sus
altares renacentistas y barrocos, sus esculturas y pin-
turas, solemne en ese día fresco de primavera.
Recorriendo las calles, alcanzamos la hermosa
iglesia de Santa María donde se celebraba una boda,
y la iglesia de San Jacobo con sus pinturas murales
monumentales del siglo XIV. Siguiendo una calle que
bajaba hacia el río, descubrimos una de las puertas
abiertas en la muralla medieval que sigue el Vístula,
testimonio de la fuerza de la ciudad, y terminamos
en las atrayentes ruinas del castillo de los Caballeros
Teutónicos. Torun es una verdadera joya surgida del
pasado, donde la gente es encantadora, la comida ex-
celente y los museos fascinantes.

Named a World Heritage Site by UNESCO, Torun
seduces one with its medieval ambience and gothic
homes; the Dom Pod Gwiazda, with its rich deco-
rated façade and snail-shaped stairs, is a pleasure
to discover, as well as the murals we found as we
walked through the alleyways.
Absorbed by the beauty of the homes and the
enchanting atmosphere filled with lively people,
we reached the main plaza occupied by the town
hall at its centre, one of the largest in Poland, fea-
turing an impressive brick tower that dominates
the statue of Copernicus. We discovered the Ca-
thedral of Saint John the Baptist and Saint John
the Evangelist, built in the 16th century, majestic
and fascinating, home of renaissance and baroque
altars, sculptures and paintings, solemn in that
fresh spring day.
We then reached the beautiful church of Santa
Maria where a wedding was being celebrated, the
church of Saint Jacob, with its monumental mu-
rals from the 14th century. Following the road that
travels down with the river, we discovered one the
entrances of the wall that follows the Vístula, a tes-
timony to the strength of the city, and we ended at
the ruins of a castle once built by Teutonic Knights.
Torun is a genuine jewel from the past, where peo-
ple are enchanting, the food excellent, and the mu-
seums fascinating.
