siglos XVIII y XIX lucen de colores vivos, las dos
calles paralelas recelan de tiendas de ropa, como
Gucci y Boss, y de joyas que son el gran premio de
los viajeros de los cruceros.
El encantador Courthouse, construido en 1793
en Wathey Square, es el centro de la ciudad. Está
ubicado justo frente al pequeño muelle, que atrae a
esos visitantes dispuestos a gastar dinero. Es un
placer tomar un aperitivo en Pasang-Grahan, que
originalmente fue casa de huéspedes del gobierno y
hoy es el albergue más antiguo de la isla. Hay que
recordar que aquí se alojó la reina Wilhelmina y su
hija Juliana durante la Segunda Guerra Mundial.
Su atmósfera se llena del sabor del pasado, el
atardecer se pinta de variados colores mientras las
lanchas recorren la bahía, es la hora para disfrutar
de un guavaberry, coctel a base de ron y un licor
de frutitas rojas que crecen en la isla.
La noche se alumbra con los neones de los casi-
nos, de los bares y de las discotecas, y Philipsburg
se muestra como la ciudad de la fiesta eterna, y
comparada con la tranquila Marigot, donde la vida
es pacífica, aquí todo se vive de modo desenfrena-
do. Es una ciudad muy divertida, y esto dura hasta
muy entrada la madrugada.
Desde Philipsburg hasta La Samanna
Al amanecer una ligera brisa de noreste a suroeste
nos acompañó para dirigirnos hacia Saint
Barthélemy, sitio que queríamos conocer y sobre
todo gozando mucho de la navegación que seguía
muy placentera... cuando de repente... el viento

and at sunset it is painted in different colors even
as boats crisscross the bay. It is the perfect time to
enjoy a guavaberry, a cocktail made with rum and
liquor made from the small red fruits that grow on
the island.
The night was lit up by the neon signs of the
casinos, bars and restaurants. Philipsburg is a city
of unending parties and, compared with peaceful
Marigot, where life is calm, here all is hustle and
bustle. It is a very entertaining city and the fun
goes on until the wee hours.
From Philipsburg to La Samanna
At daybreak a slight northeast to southwest
breeze accompanied us on our way to Saint
Bartholomew, a place we wanted to explore. We
were enjoying a very pleasant sail when… sudden-
ly… the wind changed and was now strong and in
