panorama forced us to change our plan when we
were starting to enjoy the beautiful view of the
mountains of Saint Barth, and we returned to Sint
Maarten with the wind on the stern.
Once we were protected again by Point
Blanche we discovered Little Bay and its ribbon of
white sand located at the foot of the Fort Willen
cliffs, Divi Little Bay Resort, sheltered Cay Bay and
Cole Bay, with its homes guarding the sea at the
beginning of Simpson Bay, where the airport is to
be found.
The town of Cole Bay is located on huge
Simpson Bay Lagoon, on the opposite side of
Marigot. From the sea, a canal permits access to
the lagoon and the fabulous Port de Plaisance and
Simpson Bay marinas. Here we left the sailboat to
delight in an excellent meal of fresh fish enjoyed
at the edge of the lagoon.
Sailing along the length of Simpson Bay, we
passed Beacon Hill with its hotel and houses, con-
tinued along Maho Bay beach, at the end of the air-
port’s runway, and passed near the town of Maho,
renowned for its hotels, casinos and eternal fun-
filled nights.
Mollet Bay is a very popular lengthy beach and
then Cupecoy Beach starts, where a small golden
cliff, elegantly sculpted by the winds and the sea,
protects the calm beaches where a bathing suit is
optional.
After passing the last cliff, where the western
border is located, we reached Long Bay and anchored
in front of the La Samanna hotel to spend the night,
meet again with our friend the chef and enjoy an
exquisite dinner at an idyllic time: when the sun
cambió: de frente, fuerte y nubes amenazadoras.
Ese panorama nos obligó a cambiar nuestro plan,
cuando empezábamos a disfrutar de la bella vista
de las montañas de Saint Barth, y regresamos a
Sint Marteen con viento en popa.
Una vez protegidos de nuevo por Point Blanche
descubrimos Little Bay y su listón de arena blanca
al pie de las colinas de Fort Willen, el Divi Little Bay
Resort, la protegida Cay Bay y Cole Bay con sus
casas que dominan el mar, principio de Simpson
Bay, donde se encuentra el aeropuerto.
El pueblo de Cole Bay se ha instalado a la orilla de
la inmensa Laguna Simpson Bay, al otro lado de la cual
se encuentra Marigot. Un canal permite el acceso a la
laguna desde el mar para llegar a las fabulosas mari-
nas de Port de Plaisance y Simpson Bay. Aquí dejamos
el velero para disfrutar de una excelente comida: pes-
cado fresco saboreado a la orilla de la laguna.
Navegando a lo largo de Simpson Bay, pasamos
Beacon Hill con su hotel y sus casas, seguimos por la
playa de Maho Bay, al final de la pista del aeropuerto,
y pasamos por el pueblo de Maho con sus hoteles y
casinos, famoso por sus eternas noches de diversión.
Mullet Bay es una larga playa muy popular, y
empieza entonces Cupecoy Beach, donde un pequeño
acantilado de color dorado, esculpido con elegancia
por los vientos y el mar, protege unas tranquilas pla-
yas donde el traje de baño es opcional.
Al pasar el último acantilado, donde se encuen-
tra la frontera oeste, llegamos a Long Bay, y nos
anclamos frente al hotel La Samanna para pasar la
noche, reencontrarnos con nuestro amigo el chef y
disfrutar de una exquisita cena a la hora idílica,
cuando el sol desaparece en el horizonte del Caribe.
