Día 1:
Lo primero era llegar al hotel, para las primeras
dos noches reservé en el Hotel Amigo, aprovechando
su cercanía con La Grand Place. Si la perspectiva de co-
nocer la ciudad natal de Hergé me tenía fascinado, al
entrar al Amigo, no pude más que congratularme por
tan sabia decisión. El edificio construído en el siglo XVI,
albergó durante varios años una prisión. Hasta 1957 y
en preparación para la Exhibición Universal de 1958,
fue reconstruído para albergar un hotel. Desde el año
2000, es uno más de los hoteles de Sir Rocco Forte, y
su nueva decoración, producto del ingenio e increíble
buen gusto de Olga Pozzi, directora de decoración de
la cadena es, a falta de otra palabra, exquisita.
Antes de salir del hotel y para que el espíritu belga
me inundara, probé las delicias del Chocolatier Pierre
Marcolini y, observado por una de las muchas lito-
grafías de Magritte que decoran el lugar, me dirigí al
Aroma Coffee Lounge de La Grand Place, donde acordé
reunirme con Michael, mi greeter por ese día.
Lo primero, fue conocer el Atomium, impresionan-
te estructura de casi cien metros de altura construída
para la Expo58 (1958 Universal Exhibition), cuyo mé-
rito va más allá de su tamaño, puesto que muchas de
sus grandes esferas son salas de exhibición y la más
alta de ellas, ofrece a quienes no sufran de vértigo, una
vista 360
º
de la ciudad que me hizo recordar una vez
más la frase que se volvería el leitmotif de este viaje:
Maximizar la audiencia. Ahí estaba la ciudad, deseosa
de ser observada, sabedora de la reacción que genera
en propios y extraños.

Día1:
The first thing was to get to the hotel, for the first
two nights were booked at the Amigo Hotel, where I
was planning on taking advantage of its proximity
to the Grand Place. If the prospect of meeting Herge ‘s
hometownhadme fascinated , upon entering Amigo,
I could only applaud my wise decision. The building
built in the sixteenth century, housed a prison for
several years. Until 1957 and due to the preparation
for the Universal Exhibition of 1958, was rebuilt to a
hotel. Since the year 2000, it is one more of Sir Rocco
Forte hotels, and along a new decor, the brainchild
and incredible good taste of Olga Pozzi , director of
decoration is, for lack of another word , exquisite .
BeforeleavingthehotelandtheBelgianspiritflood-
edme , I tasted the delights of Chocolatier PierreMarco-
liniandwasobservedbyoneofthemanylithographsof
Magritte that decorate the place , went to Aroma Coffee
Loungeof LaGrandPlace, where Iwould remembered to

whose merit goes beyond its size , since many of its
major areas are showrooms and the highest of them
, offered to those who do not suffer from vertigo , a

view of the city that reminded me once again
the phrase that would become the leitmotif of this
trip : Maximizing the audience . There was the city,
eager to be seen, knowing the reaction it generates
to strangers.
